will be getting an iphone upgrade in july and then will wait 18months till my contact runs out before i look at changing to a windows 7 phone
dont forget that the appstore is years old now, whereas the windows 7 marketplace will be in its infancy so it will need to settle down. windows 7 is only potential so far -
What is the point of native office interoperability when you can edit office documents in loads of other things and transfer them in any number of ways to a PC? It's not something that separates it from the crowd in any meaningful way.
The interface looks alright but I can't get excited about it. -

Registered 8 years agoNo copy and paste and no background apps. Two key functions. I know they are trying to make copy and paste redundant with a data trawling type thing but sometimes you just need a good old cut and paste.

Registered 9 years agoIf you're thinking about making the move and you have Vista or Windows 7 pop over to MS and download the Windows 7 Mobile SDK and have a play with the emulator.
You'll need to do [link]http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/20/taking-the-windows-phone-7-series-emulator-for-a-test-drive-vid/[/link]this to get access to the whole emu.
Worth a play.Vroom

Registered 7 years agoI have a Nokia 5800 due for upgrade in 2 months, bought an iTouch a few months ago and love it to bits. I see no reason to bin that for an iPhone so think the Windows Phone 7 could be well placed for a damn good buying. -

True. I just think its integrated approach to information flow will possibly make more sense in the mobile space than iPhone's desktop-with-multiple-icons UI. Obviously the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.

You really think the user experience is going to be up there with the iPhone OS? Let's be honest the track record says it won't.

Registered 9 years agoI'm an iPhone user and develop mobile stuff so I'll be using all 3 main mobile OSa but I'm surprised more isn't being made of the cross platform possibilities of the W7 phones. Especially in relation to gaming.
Looks like there's some amazing potential there... just gotta hope it's tapped -

I think this is a huge problem with iPhone or heading for one. Getting more & more apps & the pages UI just isn't up for it. Ok maybe I should be more ruthless & remove apps as I don't use them but I don't so hush. Also technically scrolling through a long list, however pretty the icons, is a bit rubbish UI wise.THFourteen wrote:

Registered 8 years agoI am thinking that the iPhone UI is in need of a major overhaul, but from seeing the iPad I don't think this is going to be happening soon.
However, I am sticking with the iPhone for the time being. It may not be perfect, but its is still better than anything else out there. -
Curious to see this in action in the flesh. Has some nice little design touches which appeal.

Not just be up there, I think it will improve upon it. The way the apps function more like 'plugins', aggregating content and information in a central hub area, is a great idea imo.

Although obviously there might be an issue going forward if/when you have a multitude of apps that don't conform neatly to the initial specificied hub categories. -

Registered 8 years agoIt's hard to say until I've actually used the Win7 phone, but I suspect the answer is going to be no.
I have already paid and own my iPhone (from Apple, for £450) and have no need to change it, so what's Microsoft giving me to switch? -

Triumph of hope over experience there. I don't have an iPhone, I have a Nokia, use WinMo phone for work though, I'd rather chew my own arm off then use one in my private life.

Registered 10 years agoSo from what I've read, this phone is going to be terrible for any internet use. Supposedly the browser is somewhere between IE6 and IE7 in terms of functionality, and because the phone can't run native code (only Silverlight/XNA) there's no way of getting Flash or a decent browser on there. This is what I've read on places like Ars, so is this true? That would mean this phone can't even play YouTube videos. -
