My mate is going to be on it, he will be the one in the blue hooded top, he's a right pirating bastard so it will be fun to hear what he has to say about it (if he gets the screentime)

Is this the one where some worthy celeb sits worthily behind a child using a laptop and worthily asks in a concerned and worthy tone of voice if you can really stop kids using the net?

Because whenever I see that clip I rant at the TV about how it's perfectly fucking possible to stop kids using the net: just block access to all their favourite torrent, social networking and porn sites from their computers by using the router software control panel.

What's that, troubled Daily Mail reading parents? You don't know how to do that? Well that's your problem, isn't it?

    *sigh*

    /sweeping generalisations ahoy

The quote on the advert annoys me, not sure I can stand to watch the whole thing.

"Is it possible to police teenagers in their own bedrooms?" (or something like that)

Yes, it fucking is. Don't put a computer in their bedroom for a start. And learn what you're doing and block web sites if it's that much of a problem.

    edit: what Jackface said

Hmmm, saw the trailer for this programme and thought to myself "I'm sick of all these paranoia-based crap TV documentaries".

For me it comes under the same roof as "Are we being visited by aliens?" or "Are we on the verge of a new ice age?"

The answer is yes, probably, but I'm not going to sit there worrying about it and these programmes sure as hell aren't going to answer the question they propose, as they never do, so I shall not be watching it.

Thing is they need to have stupid attention grabbing titles to get you to click on it from your Freeview EPG. This is actually recognised as good practice at production companies, regardless of how tabloid it makes your content seem.

I think there's an interesting all-encompassing show to be made about the situation we're currently in regarding digital content, copyright and breaches thereof and how various companies/individuals are reacting to the issues, but it would have to be totally unbiased and not preachy. There is no one simple solution, and everything that Parliament is putting into those documents is being driven by as much corruption, bribery and personal agendas behind the scenes as there is piracy on the internet.

Yeah I had to be the IT Nazi this weekend when in the process of fixing my g/f's son's laptop I saw shit loads of hard core porn as it scanned for viruses. A little more investigation revealed that him and his mates had been surfing all sorts of stuff during sleep overs.

A little while later (after a talk with the red faced kid), I installed K9Defender onto his PC and he can kiss porn (and torrents etc) goodbye. Its not an invulnerable piece of software (he could for instance re-install it and then request a new password), however, if he does screw about with the software, I will know when he did it. I'm going to install it on my daughter's laptop more for "time restrictions" as I suspect she is MSNing late at night.

Reminds me, can a PS3 surf porn etc? He's got one and I didnt have time to investigate that properly.

Yup PS3 can do porn. Redtube etc. Nothing like the shittyness of navigating the internet with a dual shock mixed with the blessing of low res porn on your big screen tv.

Ahh...thanks Nick. I will have to look at the PS3's parental controls then before the next sleep over.

Her son seems to not look at anything himself, (no porn etc downloaded when his mates weren't there), but the stuff his mates were looking at was pretty hard core. They're going to be talked to before they are next allowed back. But yes, redtube (whatever that is) was on the list of visited sites.

    how old are these kids?
    cos masturbation ain't a crime!
it's better than them hanging outside shops, stabbing old folk.
PS i don't think you can stop access to specific sites - just net on or net off.

Hehe, I only wish we'd got broadband sooner!

"Why couldn't I get through when I was trying to phone? Were you online?"

    "Just checking my emails mum!"

    "For four hours??"

"Yes what's wrong with DON'T LOOK IN THAT FOLDER!"

Also tell them that you don't mind if one of them is gay but that looking at gay porn on her son's PC is not really acceptable. That'll make for a fun sleepover.

Sit them down and force them to watch the entirety of 2girls1cup. That'll put them off it for a while.

Yeh, dial up really does teach you that its a marathon and not a sprint.

"No, you're not dirty enough to receive my love..." Clicks on next image and waits 40 minutes.

They're not in direct competition, it's perfectly possible to do both.

Although it can be tricky if done at the same time.

I lurk. If I've spoken to you, I'm either impassioned, or drunk.

He is 12 (just) so most of this was when he (and his mates) were 11. Generally at 2am sort of thing. Some of the stuff was pretty disgusting (certainly didnt do anythign for me) and they were also torrenting films which is a major no no these days.

Oh and Pear, there were some pictures of naked men on there, so I might just ask that... ;)

If they want to find this stuff they will, and no matter how much you try and stop them, they'll still get on it.
Best to talk to them about it rather than blocking it and explain, you'll get some red faces and the like. But better than a bunch of kids thinking you're all nobs and rebelling.
Being as it was disgusting stuff I'm betting it's for laughs, I used to be all over rotten.com laughing at the people cut in half and so on back in the day.

    You dare to strike Scurrcules!?

They're just being curious. I also expect he's mortified enough that no more needs to be said.
