Did you go back to normal smoking or quit completely?

I've fighting a loosing battle with trying to give up the fags for a while now. Only smoke when I have a drink.

While standing in line at Tesco for my cigarette's I spotted the 10 Motives electronic cigarette, bought one instead of the fags.

After a night using it, I'm very impressed with the concept of e-cigs.

My one big complaint, is the taste is something to be desired, any advice for a better product that's not so bitter?

Nice site. I'll have a better look later, but I'm glad to see mint on there as I smoke menthol's.

I'm sure I'll be back here later for more advice.

I also got some very funny looks using it in the office for the first time!

I like red bull personally. Or grape. The amount of different flavours is staggering and well worth trying a few sampler bottles of different ones.

Yeah, get loads of small bottles. 24mg mint is my universal go-to flavour. Seems entirely reliable. Most other flavours don't seem to give me the right hit, or are highly variable (the first bottles of red bull and strawberry I got were amazing, subsequent ones have been shit, grape gives me hiccups instead of a hit). I always have a massive stash of mint lying around in case all the others fail me.

Horses for courses. Quite a lot of them taste like windscreen wash to me, but others love em. Tobacco ones are complete shit though, I've got no idea why anyone would bother.

Right then. Looking at getting the RIVA 901 Lite bundle.

First, is this a good place to start? Reading the reviews it seams to be. Second, is the only other thing I need the e-liquid?

    Yep, that's fine.

If you're at a computer a lot, I'd recommend getting a USB passthrough. Relying on your batteries always being charged can be a drag and batteries tend not to last all that long.

The RIVA 901 manual batteries aren't too bad, actually, they last half a day instead of a couple of hours. The thin little 901 batteries are shite and break much faster.

They're the best of the tanks that I've used, but I'm quite a heavy vapourerist at times and I find that I'm refilling the tiny tanks almost every hour.

All the other tanks either seem to have shitty atomisers that (literally some occasions) don't last 5 minutes, or they're leaky as hell.

My set up is a riva ego battery/passthrough combo, a (male) 510 to 901 adapter and 901-T atomisers and tanks. It's not what you might call pretty, but it's tough, functional and has excellent battery life when it's off the hook.

Mind you buy the tanks separately, none come with the atties.

A bit of willpower to keep you away from the fags. Don't expect wonders, it's going to take some getting used to.

Once you're over that hurdle you'll never need anything else.

Ouch. Yeah, that's the problem with having rechargeable batteries that aren't always top grade merchandise in your mouth. I never use those because I've always felt there was a risk involved.

No such thing as top grade merchandise when it comes to batteries. Even the most expensive ones are made in China.

If the story is true, it is likely he was using a mod which did not have any venting. These tend to be old school bits of kit made by manly men. Think of a bit of steel tubing with a battery inside and you are pretty much there.

A faulty battery can release gas that will build up inside the case and potentially escape in a spectacular way.

Only ever happened with the more "macho" mods and never with standard all-in-one batteries. Even then, a pin-sized hole is more than sufficient to keep the dodgiest of batteries safe. The only effect most people will see of a battery having a catastrophic failure is it getting a bit warm then not working any more.

That depends. A lithium ion battery can have quite a spectacular failure mode if the electrolyte gets loose iirc, so a pin-hole sized hole isn't the greatest of ideas. Personally I've never seen such a failure though - I've seen plenty of lithium ion batteries expand but none go pop yet.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

I'm considering getting into this electronic cigarette lark, what's the current best recommendations?

Go for something with a tank.

Haven't looked into the latest stuff, but I'm sure there are all sorts of things around now that blow the socks off my current set up.

ed: just had a look, I think these might be a goer. http://www.liberty-flights.co.uk/product.asp?id=180

@Mr_Sleep After nearly 3 years of vaping there is still no "best" device for me ;)

Without getting in to the weird and wonderful side of things, the only "off the shelf" device I use is an Imist. I'm using version 1 which works really well, doesn't leak and is easy to refill. Lasts ages too if you give it a rinse every now and then.

Honestly though, everyone will have a recommendation. Just don't end up with a cheap starter kit; spend an extra few quid and get some half decent equipment.

Yeah, really it's a case of trying different things but having been at it a while, the thing I linked looks pretty good to me.

Not trying to be contrary as mileage always varies, but those Imist tanks are rebranded Ego-T's, which I don't personally recommend because the atomisers don't last very long. I've had them pop within a day to just a few minutes after screwing a new one on. Others have lasted for weeks but at 6 a throw, they're annoying to replace so readily.

What I do whole heartedly recommend is the Ego battery with a USB passthrough, I've had one for nearly a year now and it still has good life off the cable and trouble free on it. Those cartomisers in my link would fit it perfectly as it's the same design battery as the ones it's kit includes. And that Imist job as well.

Those new cartomisers are a step up from a tank system.

Nope, made by Biansi with a completely different coil and a new tank design. The imist is streets ahead of any Ego-T (or Vision) you may have used. It's closer to a Bulli A2T than an Ego. Honestly, you should give it a go DB.

Definitely agree with this, Ego pass-throughs are invaluable. Still use my one from 2 years ago as a backup.

Rather than ask the 2 or 3 of us here that actively use the things, have a trawl around the UKvapers forum.

    Edit: link fail
