I was also hoping the Dreamcast would make a resurgence!Pissy pants.

I remember being blown away with awesomness of the cutscenes in the onimusha games. Funny I hated the actual gameplay.

Ico. Bought it because I saw it for a tenner, then had to buy the console.
Which was, on the whole, quite disappointing after owning a Dreamcast*, and even moreso because I bought an Xbox** around the same time.
* almost all DC games offered 60hz options, most PS2 games don't. Still. Mostly slightly subpar PS2 versions of DC games didn't help. 1st gen PS2 games looked a bit poor.
** automatic 60hz & widescreen support vs. the PS2's utter lack of either as standard settings in the OS, HDD vs. vastly overprice memory cards etc. -
Actually Gradius V made me dig out my PS2 not that long ago. PS3 makes some gay ass attempt at emulating it.

Registered 6 years agoProbably PES, GTA 3, and GT3. All three impressed the socks off me at the time, especially the first few hours of GTA 3 (the sense of freedom was overwhelming).

I hear you on the memory card price. What a ripoff they were. I always felt obliged to get the 1st party one as well - somehow thinking a 3rd party one would lose all my save files out of spite. -
That's why I never risked it.
£30 for 8mb :'( -

Registered 5 years agoMGS3 I played on my mate's PS2 made me really want to own it. Pretty much the last pure-bred console on Earth (well, there was the Cube too), for my money PS2 was all about TPP action adventures: Ico, DMC - this sort of stuff.
Slightly disappointed by SotC, I have found everything that game lacked being present in Blood Will Tell. If you ask me, the latter represents PS2 in a nutshell: lousy textures, terrible aliasing, bucketloads of fun. -

Registered 10 years agoStrangely it was a preview of Dynasty Warriors 2 that got me excited - Me and my friends used to play that loads on split-screen with the difficulty on hard. I don't think there was much chance of me not getting a PS2, anyway.
I'm trying to remember what made me give in and finally get an Xbox. It was probably KOTOR... -
I bought the PS2 maybe two or three times over it's lifecycle.
First time was for no game in particular, the second and third times were for Metal Gear 3 and GT4. -

Registered 11 years agoI had eyed Ace Combat 4 and the upcoming MGS2. Then a work mate was talking about GTA3 all the time, I didn't even know what it was as there was hardly any reviews. Went to a shop to look at it, took a good 1 minute look and bought a PS2 with it..gif)
MGS2 demo disc was right around the corner so that was another jaw dropping moment. -

Registered 8 years agoI sold me DC to get a PS2. I was young and stupid...
I guess the games that sold to me were GT3 and GTA3. How things change (or don't in this case), GT5P and GTA4 bored me as the still feel pretty similar to those early PS2 titles. -

Registered 11 years agoIt was probably GT but I was one of those muppets who got his PS2 from Japan, and I think I got Dead or Alive & Pro Evo with it. It's still running now although I never use it. -

Registered 11 years agoGTA 3 for me, read all the online buzz about it, watched some clips, bought a GT3 bundle pack and GTA very soon after, absolutely loved it.
A fat PS2 with a hard drive and a copy of HDLoader was easily my favourite console of the last generation.This space left intentionally blank.

Registered 7 years agoBought it the day MGS2 came out, and got Pro Evolution Soccer with it. But also because Final Fantasy X was coming out on it later too. I'd already decided to get one for Silent Hill 2 and FFX, but it was seeing GTA3 at my friend's house that really tipped me over the edge. Mind-blowing! -
Hmm, hard to say, Tekken 5, Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Okami, Football Kingdom, ZOE the list is endless.

GT3. Traded my Dreamcast and original Playstation in for it too. The following week, on GTA3 release day, I went into the shops and nearly bought Spy Hunter, but bought GTA3 instead. Two months later was Christmas and my good lady bought me Silent Hill 2.
