Next time put down a sheet before playing kinky hot wax games.

And at least you didn't put the candle out by pouring water on it...

Is it possible to buy and activate Microsoft Office (student editions) without being a student? I'm not paying a fortune for it.

    Microsoft Office FAQ

    Specifically:

Q7. Do I need to have a student in my household in order to qualify to purchase and use Office Home and Student 2010?

    A. No.

So you should be okay :) Though I'd just use OpenOffice, but that's opinion rather than an answer to what you asked.

Libre office is better and still supported (Google office is even simpler).

Can I just swap a HDD in a laptop for an SSD?

Yes (assuming that by 'just swap' you mean do the same as you'd do if you were changing hard discs).

Re libreoffice and openoffice, I heard that Oracle relented and lots of the people that had gone off and forked libreoffice went back to openoffice. Does anyone know what the current status is between the two different packages?

Thanks mal. When I say swap, I mean will it fit in the HDD slot/connection. I appreciate I'll have to reinstall the OS etc.

What is the shot in films called when an object is on screen, and then the camera cuts to another object.

Specifically the helicopter blades in the opening to Apocalypse Now fading into the fan.

That's the one! I had completely forgotten, cheers. These things don't tend to stick in my head for very long.

Dance music afficionados - a question.

Currently listening to Titanium by David Guetta, and it's a good example of something I've noticed with this modern dance music thang.

It appears that when the track's in full swing, the volume dips slightly as the bass drum plays, so you get this 'pulsing' feel to it.

Is that actually happening? I.e. have they sat there in the studio adjusting the volume for every beat to make the bass drum stand out, or is it just my ears playing tricks on me, and the drum just stands out above everything else?

They haven't manually adjusted the volume around every kick but have used compression to give the kick more room to breathe. Every time the kick hits, the compressor dips other sounds which gives that pumping sound. In my music (hard dance), I just eq the frequencies out and try to use as little compression as possible.

What's the name of that flick with warring cats and rabbits and stuff? Cat one or something, but I can't remember enough to find it.

    Moral Quandary Of The Day™

Ordered a TV from Amazon last week with guaranteed Saturday delivery. It didn't show and Amazon didn't know which courier it has been given to. They said wait till thursday and then we'll refund you if it's not arrived. Got my refund yesterday.

Get a call today "It's CityLink, we've got a TV for you".

So, do tell Amazon? I'm thinking I should as it's technically stealing right?

It's Amazon's fault for using CityLink. You won. You fucked the man. You keep all the prizes!

Once they've delivered it, surely they'll report it back to Amazon anyway? Not sure what Amazon would do then.

They will prob just take the money back off you at a really inopportune moment. My morals would force me to say something but it is sorta stealing

Phone Amazon, tell them you're paying the cost of the TV but not for the Next Day delivery, if they get shirty tell them you won't pay anything. Done.
