Holy shit, it's a bit 'brisk' out there. -3.1 C in the shade in our back garden when i left for my run here. At least the sun still has some heat in it!

Yeah, it's tough running in the cold! I did a 10k yesterday, was surprisingly hard but knew I had to finish to shake off the post-marathon cobwebs!

The cold doesn't help, but it's the dark nights that have been getting me.Struggled for motivation over the past few weeks.

My last event of the year on Sunday, 10k at the Leeds Abbey Dash. Not done it before, and heard mixed reports, but it's advertised as fast and flat so hoping for a good time. Plan is to set of at 40 minute pace and see how long I can hang on! I expect to blow up spectacularly, but got to give it a go.

Aye, it's been a struggle to get going again once the clocks went back. I have not been out in an evening since then. I was going to run on sunday morning, but it was cold and raining so, um....

I hope my tolerance for bad weather will improve again like last winter when I got used to just going out in it anyway.

Yep, the dark nights really kill my motivation too. Don't mind the weather so much once I'm out though, in fact I quite like battling the elements, but still makes those first few steps out the door that much harder. My last race of the year on Sunday too, bit worried lethargy will take over once that's out of the way.

The Nike+ site has claimed another of my runs too. I got them to fix it on the overall monthly leaderboard, but it's still not showing up on the challenge. As there is currently only 1km between myself and Gurgy, this is most annoying.

My knees are still really sore since running the marathon, wondering do I continue doing the occassional run or just wait a little longer (been two weeks and 2 days since). For now I've only done three runs (2 8KM's and 1 10km).

My calf is still twingy, haven't been out for ages so toying with just fucking it and seeing what happens!

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Sub 40 10k! A big ambition ticked off. Stuck to my plan of going off fast, and managed to find some extra speed in the final k to sneak a 38.50.

The abbey dash is built for speed, and having a massive field of quick runners really helped. Can't imagine that time would mean finishing 690th in many other races.

Well done Geoff. I've had a great morning day started with an awesome 10 miler (you know you've got the running bug when you look forward to the long runs) which was awesome even manged to throw a sprint in at the end,, then afterwards when to the local park to watch 3k for kids a five k and a ten k race and even though I was tired and sore I was a little bit jealous I wasn't lining up :)

Well done SG, that's an awesome time. Would love to break 40 mins, but can't even manage a sub 20 5k at the moment. Heh, 690th with that time is crazy.

Managed a pb of my own today as well, St Neots half marathon completed in 1:38:31. Wasn't expecting to get anywhere close to a pb what with marathon recovery and a holiday getting in the way, so I'm rather chuffed with that. Last race of the year for me I reckon, excluding park runs of course.

Nice work AP! I wasn't expecting to hit my target today either, but clearly there is a lot to be said for being properly rested. Nothing planned until next year now, so good to finish on a high. Hopefully keep the motivation to stop me from getting slower/heavier over christmas!

Great time guys! I've not been running for a couple of weeks now :( calf muscle has been playing up. Feeling better but still there. Just gonna go for a run today and see what happens though!

We're back! Our gaming podcast Open Source returns after a break with a look at Destiny, Minecraft and more. Check us out! (And give us a rating on iTunes please!) :)

Well done folks, that's some fast running!

I will join the other EG crocks, since I seem to have aggravated something in my hip, so am able to get out once a week at the moment, then hirple about the next day. Hope it sorts itself out soon.

Getting older is shit. To join my rickety, achey hip, I now seem to have a sore knee. I don't remember banging it on anything, but it is getting better slowly.

Only managed a 5k run this morning though, just so I don't wreck it more. May try the same tomorrow if it still seems to be improving.

Yeah 5k for me this morning. Think my twinge is completely healed. A bit nippy like!

Oh no - what have I done !

I've only gone and entered an Ultra Marathon (albeit an "easy" beginner's one) and it's only in just over 3 months (2nd March). Help.

    Link

Anyone else fancy it ? Only 21 and a 11 hour time limit.

Only 70 entrants allowed (about 20 places left at time of posting)

Nice one Gurg! I've got an ambition to do one at some point, but not next year.

Seems a nice introduction to Ultra, looking forward to hearing how you get on. 56k, looking at 6-7 hours?

Yes 6 would be great - probably have. 6:30 in my head as being achievable but sensible.

Aim to get not too stressed out by it and consider a "break" somewhere between 20 and 26 miles for decent food intake.
More of an "experience"first time round.

I want to get through a couple more marathons before I think about taking on an ultra. March is a bit soon for me, but I'd probably be up for that one in 2015.

Oh and grats on winning the November challenge Gurgy. I've been awfully lazy since my last race, just one run in the past week.

Nice! I would love to do that! What's your training plan? I'm curious as to whether it's different to a normal marathon plan.

Plan - I'm not very good with plans.

I'll make it up as I go I'm afraid.

Will build up weekly mileage and extend my weekend long run to approx marathon distance. After that I've no idea.

At least I'll now be able to accept challenges now when the wife or kid have commandeered the ipad!

Looks good, just updated and I can see the existing challenge plus historical ones. Also new challenges can be setup from there as well.

    Well done Nike!

    PS: Website is still shite!

Doh, assumed the challenge started on the 1st, what a waste of 24km so far this month...
