Great time! What was your strategy? Did you run non-stop with energy supplements?

Great work SG. I monumentally fucked that up, though not entirely avoidable. Was aiming for sub-4, passed the halfway point at 1:57, thought I'd nailed that pacing. Then hit with an IBS attack (chronic IBS and endurance athletics really don't go), so just after halfway was forced to drop out at the next toilets, which ended up adding 15 minutes to my time. Ended up with 4:22:49, which I'm trying to think of as 4:08ish in order to not feel completely disappointed, but even that would have been beyond target. Maybe I'd have been able to get those extra 8 minutes from somewhere had I not felt so dejected upon realised that 4 was now unattainable. Maybe I wouldn't have. But regardless, it feels like a bit of a failed effort right now.

    Awesome time SG, very impressive.

Well done on getting round too Zom, was that your first marathon? A lot quicker than my first time and I didn't have to stop with IBS issues either. I always take Imodium during races to avoid just that eventuality. Read recently that's not a great idea as it dehydrates you, but I think I'm more scared of getting bad guts.

Was my first yeah. Took two Imodium an hour before but evidently that wasn't enough. Was carb-loading yesterday and in order to combat IBS issues I usually eat a very fibre-heavy diet so I only keep whole grains in the house. In hindsight a massive bowl of bran flakes and a double load of wholemeal pasta the day before was a really bad idea. Next time it's fibre-free the day before.

Heh, probably a good plan. Awesome first marathon time though, I'd count it as 4:08 too.

Good running Zom, I'd count it as a 4.08. Ive always worried about IBS, but luckily not something that has affected me yet.

I aimed for 3.30 today, clocked 1.43.40 at half way, and felt comfortable. But around 27k, I took an energy gel and instantly threw it up. Caught me out, but made the call to abandon plan a, and go for plan b which was 3.45. Without any energy though, I really struggled in the final 10k, with quite a few minutes of walking. Disappointed, but can't moan with my time.

Special mention to my 63 year old Dad, who made his marathon debut today. Came in 13 seconds under his target, with a nicely paced 4.29.47. Very proud of him.

At least you got round, you'll feel it in the morning my friend!

With decent training well in advance you should easily shave an hour off that time.

Dublin Marathon complete! Was nervous this time, felt under the weather for a week or so. Even last Sunday's 15k was really hard. All said wasn't bad though, managed 4:05. Next time I'll join the sub 4 hr club!

Rich, you need an iOS* device to join. And an account at Nike+

Then hit me with a friend request and I'll add you to the list for the challenges. You've missed the boat for Nov, but plenty of time to get sorted for Dec.

*no Android support atm for joining challenges.

Accepted the friend request Richie, can't add you to the Nov challenge though. You'll have to wait till Dec I'm afraid.
