Woke up on a mission for some reason this morning. So I ran flat out just to see what would happen and took 40 seconds off my 5k record and beat my 1k and 1 mile record in the process.

Felt like I wanted to puke near then end, but all good fun eh?

I think it's safe to say that I'm deserving of a beer or two tonight ha.

Went for a 5 miler tonight.

    In the rain.

I got soaked, as expected. I had not applied Vaseline where I possibly should have.

My nipples are in agony and I sincerely wiish I'd worn my running jacket now. Ooocha rascal.

Oh god I hate when stuff like that happens. I often get really bad burn in my crotchel region when I go for a long run.

Really must start wearing a condom.

Finished my run at 32.k, feeling mighty pleased :) you know I found really cool is listening to podcasts, to me it's much more interesting than music and considerably more engaging. Consequently what might be a tough run flies by! I listened to the World War 2 podcasts and the BBC's History Hour :D

Nice idea, might try that. Anything to take my mind off the pain.

Speaking of pain, I'm going out today or tomorrow for my first run since knackering my knee on the beach a month ago. I think I should be able to jump straight back into where I was in the C25K programme... I hope so anyway. :/

    Finished! \o/

Not exactly sure of the time, as I went 11km over in the end. Total monthly time 12:03:06, so probably got around the 120km in around 11 hours. Average pace 5'29/km which is pretty much spot on my planned race pace for Loch Ness in two weeks :)

    Nice one AP.

I'm a big podcast fan myself. Always choose to listen to them over music, takes my mind of it more. Although you don't really get 'lost' in it like you can do with the right tune when you're in the zone.

Was meaning to go for a run this morning but feeling rather rough. Will get up early tomorrow instead. Going to hit 7 miles, furthest I've gone since collapse arch.

Good luck Saucy have you or anyone done the great north run before? If so what's it like??

I want to do a few more halves next year, after my first in March was thinking of the nike run to the beat in London as well.

Plan to do 10.5/11 miles tomorrow morning myself.

I always run to podcasts. The 3+ hour Giant Bomb weekly one is very handy, will do me a couple of runs each week. Takes my mind off the run a lot more than music.

True about the zone I s'pose. I need more music, my existing collection is a little samey. I ran the Dublin Marathon last night to a mix of jazz and blues, not the most energetic selection :-D

Good luck with the run tomorrow

Well another distance record broken and did 11 miles for the first time in 1:50.

Very happy but feel completely wiped out. I still can't believe over a year ago I couldn't do 1. Was expecting to be running in a storm but other than a bit of drizzle and a stiff breeze was ok. Experienced nipple chafing for the first time ha.

    Well done bravogolf.

Just watching the great north run lying on my couch thinking this time next year I'm going to be there (I hope)

@Findus Good work with your long run this weekend! Excellent progress, you'll be ready for half when it comes round to March. You should definitely enter the GNR ballot. It was great today, even though the route is naff, the atmosphere in the start pens and along the route is awesome. Recommend it to anyone.

Weather wasn't as bad as feared, one short downpour around the 6 mile mark, but thankfully didn't last long. Running in a wet top is never good for the nipps.

Race pack for next months marathon turned up yesterday. Strange mix of excitement and nerves.

Yeah, I've the same feeling about the Loch Ness marathon next week. Nerves not helped by the niggling ITB pain I've had on my last few runs and ongoing Achilles tendon issues. Also think I'm doing a bit much in my taper, but if I don't get out and run I just feel generally sluggish and lazy and it saps my confidence.

Well completed my 10K race in Southport. Broke my 10K, 5K, and 1 mile records 10K is now 53:41 which is like 3 minutes faster than my previous record.

    Chuffed.

Hard, not helped that the course is part of my training courses so didn't get the same buzz as I know almost every centimetre of the course. Typically it had to be sunny and warm.

But another medal and t-shirt for the collection. :)

@BravoGolf I'm doing the York marathon on the 20th Oct. Been following a Hal Higdon training program (advanced 1). I think someone on here actually recommended it. I've missed a few runs, but really made an effort to stick to it. Got one more big week this week, then into the taper. Like AP says though, I think I'll add a few miles to the taper weeks. Try and keep the confidence high.

Never followed a training plan before, just done my own thing, but I can definitely feel the benefits, clocked some times that I wouldn't have even dreamed of earlier in the year.

@SaucyGeoff do you know the areas for the route? It'll be my first (and probably last) marathon and I'm not really sure what to expect. Hoping for a minimum of incline. Got to 16 miles/27k on Sunday, hoping to break 20 miles this week. I may die.

These challenges are bad for you. My decrepit, ageing hips are fucked after running 20-25 miles a week for 3 weeks. Glad it's done and I am not running again until this weekend.

Kudos to mrpon et al for surviving 120 miles on last months challenge!

@Zomoniac My long run last Sunday included the 1st 10k and final 7k of the route. That section is very flat, there is only one climb which lasts 200m. Unfortunatley it's at the 26 mile mark.

I don't know much about the rest of the route, but from what i understand any hills are more like gradual "undulations", i don't think there is anything very steep.

It's going to be my second marathon, last time everything I'd read about the last 6 miles being torture, turned out to be true, and I missed my sub 4hr target by 40 seconds. This time I'm going to treat the first half with much more respect.

Well this month went out of the window for me, I've got a few holidays runs to upload but nothing too taxing. Don't think I'm going to make it across the finish line!

So, October. Same again? A bit more?

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.
