Does anyone else find you can shamble faster in pursuit of fleshy foodstuffs if you hold your arms out in front of you, or are they better held hanging by the side?
I had a great run this morning, very hilly! It was one of those mornings where the alarm was set really early. Last night it made perfectly good sense and sounded oh so lovely to start out just as the sun peaked over the horizon but it was impossible to get up on time and I slept for another 3 hours :-D
I then reluctantly got my gear on and shuffled off, feeling groggy and lazy. 10 minutes in and already out of breath and wondering if lasts nights beer would prevent me from running. But, as usual, once I was about 15 minutes in I settled into a nice pace and it became a beautiful run. The day was quiet and the hilly valley in which I live was full of birdsong. I'm glad I didn't listen to music, sometimes it's nice just to be part of the sound of silence and the fall of ones feet.
It was the hilliest run I've done, some hills were about .5km long and very steep, so would involve a forward leaning shuffle as opposed to an upright jog! An 12km run in total but the extra hills makes it feel like a longer run and all the more rewarding. Just as I got in the door it started raining so I can settle in a for a nice lazy afternoon on Sunday in front of the fire

Nice one! Probably should put my shoes on too.
Finally leveled up to purple
Think I'm on target for the 1000km challenge too, although I can't see that on the site anymore. Chuffed with that, especially after taking a few months off through injury.
Last few months have been a washout. Gym membership cancelled, but got some Bluetooth headphones on the Santa list so roll on 2013!
Same here mrpon.
Icy pavements two weeks ago and a cold in my chest this weekend have left me with no runs in the last fortnight.
At least the rower and the kettlebells are giving me some exercise. If not the training that I should be doing...

Can any of you recommend a GPS watch for about £150 or less?

Cool, thank you
Hmmm, now I want one (was getting it for someone else as a present). Budget aside, what's recommended? I'll be using it mostly for running.
As an owner of the Nike GPS Sportswatch I can certainly NOT recommend it.
I'm on my 3rd in 18 months and even now it is so iffy.
The Garmin I used to use may have took a while to obtain a GPS signal but it was a good watch - pity it isnt instantly useable on the Nike+ website.
Awesome, beat my 5k record and managed a 21:45 score \o/ Wasn't pushing myself either, but ran a little harder as I knew it was a short run
Been injured for the last 6 weeks. Reasonably confident I'm over it now, so really looking forward to a gentle 5k this afternoon! Doubtless i'll be in terrible shape after recent food and drink excesses.
Happy New Year fellow Nike plussers!
Just been out for a rather tough 5k this morning, road testing my new Jabra Bluetooth Wireless Headphones - £65. Paired no problem with my Touch (4thG) but also successfully paired with a Vita, SG2 and iPad.
Worked perfectly with no dropouts, fitted snugly and pretty loud for a BT set. The packaging suggests using the arm band (included) on your right arm, close to the receiver. I just ran and held the Touch in my right hand without issues, holding in my left or in a pocket produced occasional blips. A handy icon appears on the Touch status bar showing the headset battery strength, which is a nice feature.
As an aside, I popped into PC World over Christmas and had a play around with the latest gen Touch. Intrigued how the Nike+ works on it I was pleased to see the communicate with foot sensor option. This could be a potential birthday present in Feb!!
Looks like the Nike+ site is still working on challenges
I've noticed it's started keeping track of your monthly running in comparison to folks on your friends list. Kind of like the old monthly distance challenges.
Only seem to have a few of you from here on my friends list though. Here's my profile if any of you want to add me.
That's an impressive set up!
If the challenges don't start up soon I may try to add some folk from here if possible. It'd be nice to have a competitive element to ensure I still go out in the miserable weather.
Aiming for my first run in 4 weeks tomorrow thanks to a lovely cold our son passed on that has lurked in my lungs for a full month before it cleared.

Happy New Year folks.
I had a skiing accident last week and currently have my knee strapped up and I'm on crutches. Doctor thinks I've torn my medial meniscus or something like that ( couldn't really understand her ). Waiting for a scan appointment to see if they recommend key hole surgery or not.
Oh man, that sucks G.
Ouch, sorry to hear that dude. Was wondering what the hell was going on, as I seemed to have run further than you in December! Should've known it'd take you getting injured for that to happen.
Hope you have a quick recovery mate. After getting injured and missing a few months earlier in the year, I know how frustrating it is when you can't get out there.
First run for 4 weeks today. A mere 3.5 miles. My lungs either haven't fully recovered from the cold, or I have lost a load of aerobic fitness.
I sincerely hope muscle memory and a bit of extra running gets me back to the 10 miles mark soon. I've got to get back to it for this half-marathon in march and I'll be running out of time otherwise.
Damned cold. I sincerely hope I don't catch any other serious lurgy in the next couple of months.

On the subject of GPS watches, i got a Garmin Forerunner 310XT and it's super. Fully waterproof with decent battery life. Looks funky too.

Back up to 6 miles yesterday. Feel ok today too. I may get back to 10 mile runs far quicker than I thought.

Managed a 10 miler today, calf muscles are aching right now but feels good.
@ReGuRgIt8oR Ouch, hope you can get back out there before too long.
Been out for some very steady runs in the last week. I had a hernia repair in December, and although I think i'm recovered fairly well, I'm really lacking any confidence to push myself. Hoping it will come with time though.
I've decided 2013 is the year of the marathon . There's one in York in October which I've signed up for, but am looking at maybe doing something in the Spring as well.
I run about 3 to 4 times a week, up to 10k. My crappy little MP3 player broke and I need to replace to mainly use for running.
Options are cheap Sandisk, iPod nano or iPod touch. I have iPod touch 2nd gen so could take that out but no doubt this will die in next year plus it's our only ipod we have.
Nano looks good and has Nike + built in so quite fancy trying this, never used Nike plus. Down side is nano is basic and has a new connector for charging, by the time i get adaptor its the same price as the ipod touch 4th gen. The 4th gen touch is the last chance to get iPod touch with the connector that works with the dockers in our house.
As sad as it sounds really not sure what to get. iPod touch seems a wee bit big to run with and tempted by nano's Nike plus built in.
Help me eurogamer, you're my only hope.

Ok thanks for that. I will definitely take those comments on board. Thanks again.
Bought a Nano.
oh sorry fella, I could've sworn I replied to your post. Don't get angry
In fact, do you have a shoe sensor already or are you going to use the built in pedometer in the Nano? I'd be interested to hear your findings, looking to get one myself as I currently just run with the Touch - see my post above.
