It is very similar. However, I loved the LOTR music in the first trailer.

I like how it's gone kind of broody. That bit where he emerges from the fortress of solitude as Superman just looks fucking superb.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Do you think it might be your film of next year?

Hope they don't have Kent as blundering fool again. Time to put that to rest. Lets just leave it at the glasses.

No. Evil Dead is what I'm thinking. But that's for another thread.

Not a lot to go on with that trailer, doesn't look too bad but I hope the origin stuff gets out of the way quickly because it's not like we've seen or read that before is it?!

    This space left intentionally blank.

  • Deleted user 11 December 2012 19:42:23
The last time his origin was on screen was over 30 years ago. No one cares about Smallville.

I would hazard a guess that virtually everyone who is going to see this movie knows Superman's origins.

The last time his origin story was on screen was last week. Its so perfect and such a cultural touchstone its shown on some channel at least once a month. Its why its absolutely pointless to retread the old ground.

Which is a shame as this is clearly an origin story.

They re-did Spider-man's origins a lot sooner than they'll have done for Supes.

    I think it's time.
  • Deleted user 11 December 2012 19:52:19
The thing is with Supes' origin is that it covers a fuck of a lot of ground. There's thirty odd years between Krypton exploding and him donning the cape. Unlike Spiderman's "BITTEN - UNCLE BEN'S DEATH - GREAT POWER ETC" you can actually do something with it.

Resulting in a worthless movie that no one gave a shit about.

If we're so familiar with his origin, why does he become Superman?

You would think the same of Batman Begins but that was great. Perhaps they can do the same for Man of Steel.

Like Batman, it covers the learning how to use his powers bit of the origin, which has never been done. Unlike this conversation :)
  • Deleted user 11 December 2012 20:08:45
Batman's origin hadn't been done on screen, you crazy man.
  • Deleted user 11 December 2012 20:09:39
We've done this before. Tim Burton's Batman did the origin story. At least, the "what caused him to become Batman" and "his first days as Batman". Not all the "building a batcave and batmobile somehow in secret" stuff.

I don't know how to quantify that statement with anything tangible - but it got decent reviews and made lots of money, which seem to go against both of your descriptions of it.

Looks pretty epic. If its half as good as any of the Nolan Batman trilogy it will piss on Superman Returds.

I'll be honest, it didn't really do anything for me. I'm sure I'll love it and I've got a lot of faith, but the teaser was far better at getting me excited.

Hope they release the full comic con trailer at some point, the shake footage of that seemed good.

I'm a little less excited than I was before, but it does still look like it could be great.

I don't think it'll fill my Dark Knight void, but I'm hoping I'll be proved wrong.

He has tried but unfortunately their lower intestine just gets catapulted out through their eye sockets. Believe me, I've drawn the pictures to prove it.

I've heard it's sponsored by Gillette (sorry morriss) with the frankly cheesy slogan: "the best a Superman can get"

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Blah blah blah I saw what Clarke did blah blah blah. The first part of the trailer was a bit poop including the gladiator music.

However it picks up once he becomes superman.

I freaking love the last line though... "My farther didn't think the world was ready to see the truth about me, he was convinced that they'd reject me, what do you think?"

    :D
