What? Like create a very popular and long-running, 10-seasons tv show that only finished a couple of years back? :-P

Besides, Supes is essentially Jesus, so we get a reminder of his origins every Christmas.

I really doubt his Jewish creators had Jesus in mind.

He's a little kid at the start so I'd say yeah. I dunno if he stop at 30 or something though.

Intresting. Dunno if you guys covered it already

It's a non story. Nolan doesn't do 'no comment' with a wink, it's just no comment.

Regarding Clark ageing: I think there's some junk about his cells being able to absorb so much yellow sunlight as an adult that the regeneration of cells effectively renders him immortal once he's fully grown… or something like that.

But he doesn't regenerate does he? Thought it was some bioelectric field, from a page or so back.

I severely dislike DC comics (liked the Green Lantern stuff for a while before they pulled off the ridiculous deus ex machina in Blackest Night) but this film looks decent.

Absolutely 0 interest in a Justice League film though.

I have a morbid interest in a justice league film just to see how bad it will be and, tangentially, what they are going to do to batman to make him fit in with the super tights.

They should just do a Batman & Superman film if they want to go down that route. Every single other character is turd.

You have to put the other bumcheeses in there or batsman would have even less to do than usual.

I didn't read a few pages back and the field you're talking about does protect him like an armour (if we're talking about the same thing). But I still thought he had regenerative powers for when the field was penetrated and he became wounded. For example Kryptonite wounds etc.

He definitely healed quickly in Smallville. Not that Smallville really counts.

Well, yes, that's sort of the point. You can do something completely different from it and still be totally in keeping with the character. Besides, Smallville arguably only covered the origin shit in the first couple of seasons, then decided to do its own retarded thing. Everything else was mostly just monster-of-the-week and Lana/Lois/Lana again/Back to Lois 90210-esque nonsense, with an occasional episode that goes "oh wait, we need to include Jor-El or something". Plus, it was really really shit.

I googled whether or not Supes ages and found a reply from someone who has put a lot more thought into the topic than I ever could:

I've always considered the radiation of the yellow sun to be Superman's proverbial "Tree of Life" and the powers it grants allow him to overcome any genetic predisposition to aging. I would think that if this ideology were canon, they would explain that Superman only ages when he's not being exposed to the radiation of the yellow sun, and that this aging is quickly reversed upon reintroduction of exposure, and that aging is only retained if he passes a certain 'point' of aging. So say there's aging markers, and if he gets to 50% of a marker, that 50% is removed upon reintroduction, but if he gets 100% past it and starts working against a new one, any reconstruction can only move back to 0% aging against the new marker. Am I making sense?

Of course, they've also explained (via genetic testing by Cadmus after "The Death of Superman") that the Kryptonian genetic code is so complicated and "advanced" that instead of being a double helix like ours, it was instead composed of so many intertwining helixes that it was a solid cylinder of genetic information. I hesitate to think of how much of that genetic information is retrovirally derived considering the vast majority of ours is unused.
    Probably right, though.

Pretty sure they did, as in they explained so many years ago. I'm probably wrong, as I'm no expert on superman, especially compared to you.

PS: You do know it is possible to be a Christian and Jewish, right? Especially so, considering many early Christian's were Jewish (including his disciples). But that's another point.
  • Deleted user 14 December 2012 00:13:47
Yes, Jewish Kal. Don't you know you're allowed to be Christian too?
  • Deleted user 14 December 2012 00:22:20
Superman is inspired by Jewish immigration of the 1800s, with his two extra personas (Superman and Clark Kent) as metaphors for being culturally alienated and integrating into American society respectively, with only his main persona (Kal-El) being his actual true self.

The whole "Superman is Jesus" thing is a relatively recent development of the character.
