    @crashVoodoo I'm Sim only on my Note 4. I think - having seen the price of the note 8, I'll get a new battery and smart case for this and stick with it until it dies. Hopefully by then the note 8 will be considered old hat and I'll get one for a third of the price. I just can't justify that much money on a phone.

    I got 7.1 in about update from Lenovo for my Moto G Play last week. Doubt I'll see Oreo though.
    I'm surprised Lenovo bothered to put out 7.1 update for the Play, G5 owners had no updates, not even security patches and don't even bother respond to questions on their forums. A truly shit company
    Hmmm, I was considering a Moto G5, have things got so bad since Lenovo took over?

    @eleven63 ahh that new battery feel. Mines off charge at 6.30 and down to around 60% by the time I get into work for 8.

    Battery is old and I'm yet to get a new one.

    @crashVoodoo only comparison is with my 3 year old Nexus 6, which would have easily been down to 40% at the same time/usage - but, yes a new battery is a great thing :)

    My G5 is stuck on Android 7.0 with the last security update being January '17

    Yep, don't get a Moto g5 as Lenovo released a phone this year and don't give a fuck about the customers. As B0rk mentioned the UK phone is stuck on Android 7.0 with the last security update being January '17. Some other countries got a security update for May or June.

    The G5 is actually solid phone (noticed 2 bugs in the software, 1: turn off the wifi and it has question mark, meaning you have to go back into the wifi to turn if off again 2: sometimes the clock widget just has has the spinning loading icon but thats rare. The G4 was better supported than this

    Well that's disappointing to hear, they sound almost as lazy as Sony with their updates. I don't really want to be paying stupid money for a phone these days and the G5 plus seemed great for the money. Are Huawei good for G5 plus money?

    Oreo was available to download on my Pixel this morning (UK, EE)

    No noticeable immediate major changes, but then, I'm not an uber android nerd... more a very simple nerd

    Didn't prompt me to update BTW, checked for updates and there it was, almost like they were ashamed of it.

    @Gruff

    I put Oreo on my pixel earlier but really can't see what the changes are. Some display icons look different but that s all I can see. To be honest I'm not really arsed anyway. I only use web, YouTube, WhatsApp and Twitter on it anyway.

    @Addy_B can you do picture-in-picture in Youtube? It's a new feature, to Oreo at least, but I've heard conflicting reports of if you need a Youtube Red account or not.

    @GarlVinland

    Just tried and it won't let me do it with YouTube.

    @Addy_B damn, that would actually be useful. Cheers anyway, still waiting on my OTA update for Nexus.

    There's an app called Stream which will let you watch a windowed YouTube video while doing other stuff.

    Still won't let you lock the screen, though.

    Okay Samsung S7, swipe out from bottom left or right for the wheel shortcuts and I've suddenly got adverts on there.

    WTF?

    Ignore: it was ES Swipe part of ES File Explorer

    I still use file explorer but it's the paid version. I bagged it when it was 10p ages ago. Sleek and ad free

    Anyone got an alternative to ES file explorer? As people have said, it keeps on popping up with notifications and is now a mess.

    You could:
    Buy the PRO version
    Try File Manager from ASUS (has ads but they don't bother me)

    OR

    Install that google rewards app and grind until you have enough points to pay for ES PRO.

    I do the latter a lot for utility apps. Paid for BitTorrent that way.

    Can anyone recommend a decent android tablet for under 300? I was looking at the zenbook which is currently 269 at the bt shop:

    https://m.shop.bt.com/products/asus-zenpad-3s-10-z500m-32gb-9-7--ips-android-6-0-z500m-1h010a-CTS1.html?utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_content=ZA0000&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_content=ZA00&awc=3043_1505075410_c23c98390f97eb7287315cf1837c0445

    Or possibly going for a cheaper Samsung Tab. I'll be using it for a while range of stuff like films, gaming, web etc as well as some mobile reporting testing for my job so it needs to be a decent spec.

    Since I'm anal and have a pixel phone I didn't know whether to pay a bit extra and get the pixel c tab.

    If it's fit work, won't they pay for it?!

    The Pixel C is lovely, but a bit on the unwieldy side for my tastes. Also, bear in mind that December will mark two years since its release, meaning Google will officially retire it from OS updates shortly after (it'll still get security patches, ofc).

    Another decent alternative to consider are the Huawei Mediapad M3 range:

    8 Inch: http://www.ebuyer.com/770775-huawei-mediapad-m3-8-32gb-wifi-tablet-silver-53017213

    10 inch: http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7529072

    Bought the 8 inch for someone recently and it's actually really nice: Huawei's MUI Android skin is surprisingly close to stock, the speakers are loud and the screen quality is great. Give them a look if you find any demo models.

    @Dougs

    I already have an iPad mini via work and as I strictly don't need this (it's something extra I'm doing) they won't pay.
