I'd say the first problem would be that you purchased an Acer phone!

... is there an Acer message board for specific devices? Perhaps you may find out a little bit more about your present woes (over there).

Personally, I would restore your phone to factory settings - a pain in the bum, I know - and see if that helps. If not, a 'dodgy' phone, it may well be.

@Fab4 there's bound to be a board on xda dedicated to this device.  Probably your best bet for tweaking.

Thanks. I'll take a look. When I was googling a solution it would appear that 'random shutdowns' happen across a wide variety of Android phones, with many different solutions suggested.

I've currently been 'stable' with all the apps I added removed, Google account syncing off, and a little plastic shim to keep the battery tightly packed. I'll leave it to see if that helps for an extended period. Then i'll revert back one by one.

    What apps did you remove?

@Jono62 FB, sketchbook (the free one), a dutch railway planner, easyjet and an app management tool.

    Ruh-roh...

'Master key' to Android phones uncovered

Edit: Reading over it again, it appears that in essence the danger comes from downloading an app which could show almost no needed permissions and then still have unrestricted access to your phone. In short, as long as a) this flaw doesn't become known to the common hacker b) you download only reputable apps c) you download from The Play Store, then you should be fine.

Anyone recommend a handset with a.good battery life? Performance wise I've no problem with my Galaxy S2 but since upgrading to jelly bean the battery life has gone to utter shit. Tried turning everything (inc Google Now) off, uninstalling apps etc and its still awful.

The more I hear about JB the less I regret that my GS2 refused to update. Still get a days worth of juice, even with fairly heavy usage (mainly browsing and making calls).

I used to get that, but it's literally halved, and I probably use it less and have the brightness lower because I'm so conscious of it! Might actually revert to an old version.

You might have a rogue app running. Have you rooted it?

Nope! Might try a factory reset before I downgrade.

In my experience, the biggest battery killer is the media scanner. Just gets stuck, really annoying. Rooting it will enable you to stick on a decent rom though.

@StixxUK A friend of mine had the same thing happen to his GS2. He replaced the battery for a tenner and all was well again.

That Note 3 looks awesome. Wanted a Note 2 for my next upgrade, but this will do if the price is good.

... what on Earth were Samsung sniffing when they decided to let the Note 3 have a PLASTIC leather back?

It's a bit of a boring update imo, I'll stick with my Nexus until I can have a 5-6" phone with an oled bendable display. Might be a couple of years mind... but I've had a Note before and didn't use half of the features.`

Same here. Novelty of the big screen wore of very quickly.

Anyone else not very happy with the new update name/branding? I know I'm not meant to care but it is fucking stupid and I don't think I want to be part of a digital ecosystem that partners with fucking nestle to name their operating system.

Couldn't give a fuck to be honest.  How much is it affecting you?

    It's reminding him.

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

That's a silly thing to say. It doesn't affect me but if they want me to buy into an ecosystem I would rather they didn't take the piss this much.

I don't think they thought much further than "wouldn't it be cool if......"  then realised that since they're working for Google they had a shot at making it happen.

I'm the type of person that can get outraged at Nestle and all the shitty things they've done but tbh KitKat is a bigger brand than Nestle so I don't make any kind of emotional connection.
Plus I really don't give a fuck other than thinking KitKat is a better name than key lime pie.

Need some help. Got an old HTC wildfire from a friend but no matter where I am it cant hold a signal. Looked it up and it seems to be a common problem with the handset having a poor antenna. So going to need something new, however really can't afford to go over £100 or so. Not after anything amazing obviously priority is basic funtionality(decent antenna, doesn't crash all the time, etc), processing power, etc is a secondary concern however I would like to be able to run basic apps such as twitter, FB, Audible, etc. So does anyone have any recommendations or an old handset they want to sell?

Possibly he means to himself in terms of the actual naming convention etc.?

I'm a bit puzzled by that statement myself to be honest.

Quoted. Forum seems to lose posts that end with ! or ? and maybe others. Weird

I would struggle to list products that Nestlé produce, who they own and who they don’t own.

But I know exactly what a kit kat is and have small amount of emotional attachment to them.

When I think of kit kats Nestlé doesn't even cross my mind.
