    The headphones that come with the Xperia are rubbish. On the highest setting and it was very low and the quality was poor. Tried my Sennheisers and while the volume is still low, the sound was crisper. Looks like I'll still be using my Desire HD for music.

    The sound limiting setting isn't on is it? Same with the brightness...

    I couldn't find any sound limitations butvI will investigate further.

    Battery life for the Xperia is pretty good.

    Am super impressed with the Xperia Z so far. The black casing is actually a lovely dark midnight blue when the light catches it just-so; very nice. The UI is slick and nippy, more so than the demo unit I played with in the 3 Store. Camera is quick to start up, screen is gorgeous, and battery life is fine once you stop faffing about with it getting it just how you like it. Coming from the Note II, the Z doesn't feel big at all. In fact, it sits very nicely in the hand and is just the right weight. Pictures look good, as does video playback. Browsing is a very pleasant experience, aided by the HD screen making everything look crisp. There's also a pop-up browser small app (search for it in the Play Store), so my most-missed feature of the Note II problem is resolved! Woo!

    Downside? That Sony insisted on a slate grey colouration for the bars on the UI, hence it looks washed out and doesn't match the black of the body of the phone. I'd love it if they fixed this, as it makes the screen seem smaller than it is and makes you think it's washed out. The display could also be brighter - this is my fourth Xperia and they've all been too dark on the brightest setting. I'm also missing the brightness slider in the notification tray that the Galaxy phones have - a super-useful feature that Sony need to add asap. Getting the supplied screen protectors on was a nightmare - the back one is adequate but I gave up with the front one, not helped by the fact the phone is a dirt and dust magnet. Sony's Android skin is classier than yucky TouchWiz but Nova looks much better - it also lets you have more squares to place things on the UI than Sony's default and paltry 4x4.

    Overall, extremely happy, only a few niggles.

    @Mr-Brett

    It depends really mate, normally 3-6 months
    Although at the moment I'm sorted for all three as I've got my HTC windows handset, my xperia z is on the way and I'm using my iPhone 5 at the moment, so unless something combines all three and smashes any current hardware I can't see me changing again for at least another 6 months

    @Maturin You should have bought the Mark 2, it has 8GB internal memory.

    @Razz wouldn't make much difference to me. I've got everything installed on it I want. I'm only using it to stream stuff. And for actual content I've got the MicroSD slot.

    If folks want to install lots of apps then yes I think that would be the one to go for.

    @TFM_Excalibur Blimey, that's some hardcore phone useage there! Do you also get super cheap contracts? I can't imagine you juggle sims.

    @Mr-Brett

    It's a bit of a pain to be honest, I've got 3 contracts that I pay for,normally if see a deal online new contract wise I'll just take that, pop my staff sim in it then off I go, then just pay it off later

    But every 6 months we now get offered new handsets at stupidly low prices so once my contracts are up I'll cancel all three and just use my work sim, Christ it'll save me about 100 quid a month!

    350 quid for my S2 off contract 18 months ago. Easily going to get another year out of it.

    Though given how well it's performing with 4.2.1 quad core stuff should be amazing.

    @Maturin Cool, It was just that you mentioned that you thought your problem with Google video not streaming in HD was due to space limitations. I thought this might help.

    @Razz ah yes there was that. Forgot about that.

    Looking at forum posts from folks with similar devices I think it may be a problem with Google Movies, perhaps having Rockchip devices flagged as SD only.

    Sadly can't unlock the bootloader for the Z but it sounds like Cyanogen are close to a solution for locked bootloaders.

    How did I miss that they'd removed the ability to move apps to an SD card on JB? That's proper shit.

    @Dougs

    That was changed in ICS i think. The reason was access speeds. If someone chose to use a low class card it would effect app performance.

    Seems Samsung has done an Apple, similar to how their was little to differentiate between the iPhone 4 and 4S ...

    ... the new Galaxy S was unveiled yesterday evening in New York and I think it is quite safe to say the whole thing was slightly disappointing. The HTC One and Xperia Z have nothing to worry about!

    Oh well, it will still sell millions.

    It depends on how they price it. It has to come in cheaper than the Z/One/iPhone 5 to stand a chance, IMO. Personally, watching this mystery Motorola handset that looks like a very cheap and cheerful option complete with stock Android.

    My phone is dead. My Galaxy Note is completely FUBAR, Samsung say my motherboard is fucked, and cost of repair is too high to ignore my flash counter being more than 0. I didn't root my phone, but I flashed official firmware using Odin. Rather than using Kies, I really hate Kies. This, obviously, voided my warranty. They're saying 250 for a replacement, I think I'll just get the Nexus 4 for now. And maybe I'll get another phablet next year.

    RIP buddy :(

    Any SG2 owners put the latest OTA update on? Think it was 4.1.1, I've downloaded but delayed the install as it rather frighteningly mentioned "some" data would be lost but not what type!

    Anyone taken the plunge?

    My wife accidentally installed it (JB, I assume) on her S2 last week. Disappointed that the voice recognition would not recognise everyday stuff like "MacGyver", some things have "changed" and she's had to "learn again", but otherwise it hasn't really been a talking point for her. She was a fanatical charger before, anyway, so it's difficult to tell if battery performance has improved. I managed to lay my hands on it just long enough to stop all running apps and flush the memory, so any actual performance increases might just be a result of that six-monthly spring clean.

    She hasn't mentioned losing any data - as I say, she installed it accidentally.

    Took the plunge, so far so good! Nothin lost, just having fun tweaking the interface! Like getting a brand new phone again. Seem nippier, as well.

    Now where were those snazzy lock screen gadgets Tonka had...
