Registered 10 years agoFlashed my Desire to vijendrahs's CM10 Jelly Bean (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945441). Unbelievable. This is why I'll never go near an iOS device. -

Registered 10 years agoWhat's the most stable ROM for the S2? Have been running a CM10 nightly, but was getting quite a few issues with the media scanner running for hours, killing my battery. Tried to update via the CM updater and have managed to fuck that up (I think it's deleted the gapps), so just wondered if there was another one... -

Registered 4 years agoYeah my battery drain was down to a duff microSD card I think. I tried formatting it but it was still draining the battery. I've ordered another and I'm hoping that won't do the same. -

Registered 10 years agoDoh, missed the responses, cheers. Ended up having to re flash the nightly I was on anyway, as for some random reason, my PC wouldn't recognise it. That seems to have done the trick. Will check out the RR 3.12 though.
8 cores. Christ. -

Registered 10 years agoAnyone know of any issues with mods and replacement batteries? I have 3 now (one extended battery, 2 apparent official Samsung replacements) , all of which are fully charged yet the phone refuses to boot. Odd.
Ignore me, sorted it.

Should have listened to you.... Couldn't find 3.12 so went with the latest version. I like it but man, the OS is killing my battery. Will try and find 3.12 and give that a go.
Yeah I use Resurrection Remix 3.12. Seems to be the best going.
I also found that the culprit of my battery drain - some borked music file (which I'm yet to identify) would cause the system to continually scan and attempt to update the media library all day long. You won't know it's doing it, but it is.
There's a script you can run that will disable media scanning on the next reboot. That cured all of my battery woes and my device would finally enter proper sleep mode when left alone.
Edit: Don't use 3.13 yet. It's based off a very new experimental build. Go for 3.12 for now until things settle down (or just keep it like I will be doing). -

Seems like they misjudged the market direction with the optimus g and scrambled to get a spec bump out to keep up with the HTC DNA/m7 and Sony xperia z.

Registered 9 years agoWhat's the likelihood of a new nexus 7 coming out soon? I'm thinking of getting one rather than prematurely upgrading my HTC Wildfire like I was going to as all I want is a small browser thing around the house.
I'd hate to get one just before a revision comes out because I'm a shallow human being who needs the latest iteration of a gadget to feel good about myself.

There won't be another one until Autumn at the earliest however, if you did indeed mean the Nexus 7 (the Google tablet) then July at the latest I would imagine because that is when it first came out. -

Registered 8 years agoIs it really poor I can't see any reason to go beyond my S2.
I'm on 4.2.1, everything's still smooth. Some extra ram wouldn't go amiss I suppose but holding home and swiping away a few apps every now and again isn't that annoying.
Still a really useful piece of kit. -

I like the look of the Xperia Z as a potential upgrade but am concerned about the size of the device, also considering its waterproof-ness you'd think they'd make it a wireless charging device, but no :/ -

Registered 6 years agoAnyone had this error with Galaxy S2 or ICS? Essentially my battery life is all over the shop. I will get random cut outs when I'm using plume or facebook, nothing taxing and hammering the screen.
The phone will just shut off, no warning. Switching it back on, the battery capacity has been chopped in half or at worse, on 1%. Stick it on charge, it then "returns" back to it's original battery condition.
I've removed apps that might be affecting it (Smart Battery Monitor) which has caused the shutdowns to be less frequent. Actually tried to go into the O2 shop, spoken to a "Guru" who just did exactly what I've checked, things like the USB connection, on the latest firmware etc.
The only option I have left is a complete factory restore, I'm just backing everything off the phone at the moment in preparation.
Just don't want to fire it off to the "Engineers" who will just wipe and format it after having my phone for a week. -

Registered 10 years agoMy GSII has recently started suffering from "heatstroke" - suddenly the back just gets really, really hot and the battery starts dropping at around 1% a minute. This happens even when there are no apps running and the screen is off, and a restart fixes/stops it.
Then last week I turned off my phone at 69& power (needed it for later) - but when I turned it back on an hour later the power had dropped to 20%! The battery manager even showed a bizarre vertical drop in charge, with zero explanation.
I've no idea if it's an app causing it, but it is starting to become a bit annoying. -

Registered 10 years agoYeah, I've had that, even bought a new battery. The most common problem seems to be the media scanner running all the time, possibly due to a corrupt file. Try Rescan Media Root (if rooted), kills the process.

Registered 6 years agoThat might explain why it died on me this morning. I might backup and format my memory card as well. -
Speaking about media, I fired up the Amazon MP3 app on my S2 the other day. Had quite a few purchases I totally forgot about. Streaming worked great as well (wifi or 3G) only 250 tracks for free but lots of other subscription packages available.
Worth a look if you're struggling for space. -
