All gravy here. You were right Dougs, Apex is the mutts. A tinkerers dream! It's like getting a brand new phone (ish).
Exactly what I thought. Still only really scratched the surface.

My biggest issue is I get the odd hang up when exiting an app as it gets confused which launcher it's going back to.
I can't seem to be able to fix an email widget to a screen now using Apex. Not a problem with Hotmail/Gmail as I can use dedicated widgets for those, but more for my work exchange account.

Ah, this seems like a good thread to ask this:

I do not have a mobile phone contract (and don't intend to get one due to the fact I don't use my phone enough to justify my cost), and have a BlackBerry on PAYG. I'm fed up of it.

Are there any decent Android phones for sub 200? I would be use it for Internet, email, social networking and taking photos (obviously just quick snapshots when I'm out without my proper camera).
Xperia Play seems to be frequently under 200, or the HTC One V has just laucnhed at 250, won't be long till it drops...

First weekend with my Note has gone reasonably well. I've owned Android phones before so I was nervous about the battery but so far it's running fine. Been using it heavily today (off sick, tweaking things on it) and even though I last charged it before I went to bed last night it's still showing ~40%.

The screen's pretty nice, the system's laggier than I'm used to (ex WP7 user) and there's *horrendous* shutter lag on the camera but in the main I am really impressed with it.

BTW, anyone know of a way to boost the headphone volume? Even at full whack it seems to be pretty weedy at the moment

I usually find I have to turn down the volume on my headphones! Perhaps there is a fault somewhere along the line, i.e. mp3, headphones, or perhaps a hardware fault. In the short term, music software like winamp or poweramp have a built in equaliser that you can use to boost the db.

Have you checked if there is an "AVLS" setting under the volume or settings somewhere?

Edit: of course an equlizer is the quick way but it seems unlikely that the issue is the actual volume. Like Razz says, at top level volume is normally more than sufficient.

Nah, it's definitely low. Just tried another set of earbuds which were better than the stock set but when you lump the media player up to 15 it's just starting to reach "nice" volumes yet. That's indoors. Outside, near traffic and whatnot, it's impossible to hear there's anything playing. Calls are fine, it's only music and podcasts

Oh, downloaded the Android version of SketchBook (my fave iPad drawing app) and after finding it wasn't tuned for the S-Pen I contacted the devs. They got back straightaway to say they're currently working on patching S-Pen features in :-D

What seems to be the problem? I can [with Apex] add an Email Widget to my home screen, resize as applicable and see my work Exchange Inbox.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Just got one of those big-arsed replacement batteries for my GS2. It's gone from a svelte, light thing to having an enormous arse. Hoping it'll make a difference on long days away from home though

Lol and you laughed at MY phone. Why not just get a spare battery and wall charger? Same price.

@Rythm that's wierd, my note performs at decent volumes for me. Although I do have it almost on max. There might be a kernel that lets you boost volumes

I use Voodoo louder on my GS2, but it does require the phone to be rooted.

Anyone got anything good, bad or indifferent to say about the HTC One V? It's just a little over 200 SIM free and I think I'm willing to stretch that far.

    Cheers dears.

On max it's about half the volume of my Sansa Clip and about 3/4 of what I used to get out of my Windows Phone or my iPod Touch

Because of the Clip I'm unlikely to use the Note for music but I just wondered if it was a common issue

  • Deleted user 27 April 2012 09:25:46
Don't need it just want don't like customising anything when I know a big revamp is coming. Also desperate to far chrome as I'm really not impressed with the other browsers so far.

Had a muck about of a ROM for it. It was very fast on my old (DHD) phone. Responsive and seemed like a sense lite. By that, I mean sense on my phone can become slow and laggy. This one didn't at all when I was testing it. IMO it will be decent and for around 200, I'm tempted.

A month or 2 given the way the S2 went, though guessing they'll want the Note version to be a little more polished than the S2 version was on release.

If you have an android phone or tablet, you owe to yourself to buy one of these:

    http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/9623066/-/Product.html

Only 12.99 too! Bargain, the sound of one of these little things is absolutely unbelivable, it's got some serious bass for a little device, also you can diasy chain them endlessly.

Well I ordered one off Amazon for 225 last night, so should be here next week. I'll have to let people know because I didn't realise how new it was when I posted last night.

Amen, my official O2 build has some fucked up weird quirks. Last night it took micoach about half my run before it found a GPS signal. Also for some reason Wifi doesn't kick in straight away when I turn it on. Sometimes I have to go into flight mode and out again for it to turn on.

    /slow clap O2/Samsung

Or rather it looks like a Galaxy Nexus. Win! \o/

Interesting, the LED was apparently moved to the upper left of the front in order to make room for the single button.
