I decided to look at what games are likely to come out this year and which ones I was wanting/will buy. List is below, but what is scary is if you work out the total cost of these games, its a little scary....

So for me this is likely to be the most expensive year ever. I appreciate others will have different games listed etc, but I wonder what number of games have you got listed to buy this year, and how that compares to previous years.

    Thanks

    -------------------------------
Games to buy this year (based on if they get released)

    AVP
    Heavy Rain
    Bioshock 2
    Red Dead Redemption
    God of War 3
    Batman AA 2
    Formula 1
    Modnation Racers
    Lego Harry Potter 1-4
    Mafia 2
    Dead Rising 2
    Max Payne 3
    Fallout New Vegas
    Medal of Honor
    Starcraft
    Total War
    GTA - DLC

    You missed out the best racing game ever made;

    The new GT.

I'm not really a renter, only if i am not convinced about the game.

I am not sure if I REALLY want GT yet. The games listed are day 1 buy, GT is still on my possibles list... of course i am sure ive missed other games, its not really about that, but just so many games to get :D

This year's the cheapest I've ever come across. I want Mass Effect 2 but can't get it due to not having a system it'll play on, and I fancy Heavy Rain but I'll be fucked if I'm paying 40 for a 4-5 hour game that, in the developer's own words, shouldn't be played more than once.

Following that, there's very little in terms of "must-haves". Everything in that list looks OK, but purely as spacefiller in the absence of proper, decent games

i wont be bying bioshock 2 it wont have dedicated servers not that i would be bying for mp but im just not supporting it simple on any platform .
Most of the tight game developers will start taking mw2 approach and leaving it to p2p which is naff and relies to much on peoples upload off the host .
Will be getting heavy rain and gow 3 though .

Why? I'm happy having a clear year so I can work on backlog. :-)

I doubt I'll be buying even four new releases this year.

Red Dead Redemption looked interesting but it's near certain the PS3 port will be gimped just like GTA IV, same for the GTA DLC, gimped DLC.

Heavy Rain has day one DLC, stuff that could have been on the disc instead of cluttering my hard drive, now they're holding their hand out for another 3-5 on top of the retail cost. Piss off Quantic Dream.

I'll probably hold off on purchases to keep expenditure under 100 for this year with only Yakuza 3 bought at full price.

Funny, i'm the same really. But i put 80 hours into Dragon Age over / before xmas, and now i cant seem to bring myself to get into anything chunky again, despite having a whole host of games i bought on steam...

I wanted to finish ME1 again before i bought ME2 but both are looking unlikely at the moment!
  • Deleted user 30 January 2010 14:57:22
Having already bought Bayonetta this year, I did spend most of my weekend shop with ME2 in the trolley but decided when I got to the tills I'd give it 6 months and buy it when its cheap.

It's a rewarding, enjoyable hobby, but bugger my wallet getting raped every week.

Will be cheap for me... other than a couple of games I'll be picking them up after they've all dropped in price because there's too much competition. :D

    Quitters never win dammit!

Oh but I'm safe, I stopped playing September last year... now...5 months clean...

Not like I'm counting the days or owt.

Just to state: we are not railroading the thread, it's a valid comment.

Play WoW, buy no other games but pay 9 a month to be miserable.

Don't play WoW, buy other games, spend at least 40 a month being miserable and wishing we were playing WoW instead.

Probably, like last year, will buy only a few titles on release day. Much cheaper that way.
Off the top of my head definite will gets:
    Bayonetta
    ME2
    Bioshock 2
    Uncharted 2
    Halo Reach

What a curious standpoint for what is ostensibly a single-player experience?
Fuck multiplayer, that'll only be some tacked-on piece of shite ordered by suits anyway.

For me, the list so far is looking like:
Bayonetta (the girlfriend's picked this up for me already)
    Bioshock 2
    Mass Effect 2
Starcraft 2 (if it materialises which... well... Blizzard. Y'know)
    Dante's Inferno

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

I have 20 titles on my wants list so far, 800. I should get back 250 on trades over the 20 games, so 550 for my main hobby over the year seems fine to me.
I wish I was a renter though, just like owning the physical copy too much

Don't sell ME2, what with all the promises of plenty of DLC.
