Well-designed products that not only cater to the tech-spec nerd crowd. How dare anyone like them.

I can see his point Otto but I think it would have to be really cheap to seriously threaten print media. I wouldn't pay a grand for something to read emagazines off, and johnny average certainly won't. I don't know how much the macingot will cost though. I will be watching later.
    Yeah, I agree.

He is right though, that is the direction things are going. If it was affordable I would love a device similar to what he is describing, and I would gladly pay subs for decent digital media content.
It's Apple dream on. I am sure it will be a thing of beauty though.

People love the ease of use and mobility of touches and iphones. Put browsing, youtube, apps, , ebooks, magazines maps all together on a bigger device that is still sleek enough for carrying about in your bag and taking to work or uni etc. a lot of people will pay up. I would love to have one lying about the house just to look up things and chill out rather than booting up the laptop or using a touch. I would be wary of the price though and don't care for ebook readers either.

I have to say, when it comes to e-books I'm on the side of the paper luddites. I do read e-books and I even had a dedicated e-reader at one stage but (a) there's no real need or demand to carry hundreds of books around at once - in sharp contrast to the iPod's unique selling point - and (b) an e-reader can't compete with books on price, ruggedness or quick and random access. And frankly it doesn't even compete that well on portability. Which kind of begs the question, why?

No, the iThing has to offer lots more than just e-books or e-mags.

Rammstein released a boxset with each "item" modeled on a member of the band.

If it's anything more than a barebones book/tablet I'll be kicking myself for buying a MBP recently.

You would have to have rocks in your head to get this at launch.

By the time its worth buying your MBP will have seen a pretty good service.
