    @damagedinc

If buying from Apple, maybe consider a refurb.

Price is going to interesting. Especially with the Nook HD coming out as well, which can take a microSD apparently.

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

€249 for 8GB (Wi-Fi) ... providing that is only just a shy over £200 in today's rates and, by adding VAT, the iPad mini may well start from £219, which would guaranteed a huge hit (for Apple) this Christmas!

    8gb?!

Ipad apps are huge. Fifa takes about 1.2gb on its own and about 4 free to install

16 would be a serious bare minimum.

Why on earth would you want to play Fifa on a tablet?

Oops, just forgot that iPad offers no external memory ...

... 8GB sounds very little all of a sudden, especially considering iOS 6 is a shy over 2GB alone!

The new iPod touch may well be £249, but at least it offers a rather hefty 32GB out of the box.

Bound to be 250 quid over here for 8gb. If you ask me the rest of those prices are daft and way too high.

Those prices would mean 56GB costs 300 euros? LOL.

Apple are genuinely not on this planet when it comes to memory prices ...

... double the memory, double the price!

There's a rumour going around that there's going to be an iPad refresh announced today along with the Mini. It looks as though it's going to be the lightning connector.

    Go Apple! Err...

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

i heard that the ipad refresh is underway but will be announced in spring as normal.

the one thing i think may push the ipad refresh sooner is the lack of 4g in europe due to the US chips they put in.

all kinds of dubious rumours going round.

ipad mini will have an e-ink / lcd hybrid display is my fave

Apple are awful with memory prices but remember that you can't compare desktop prices, because there 64 Gb will likely use several smaller chips, whilst here it will be two? Four? Anyway, you'll have to use much more expensive parts is what I'm trying to say (in a meandering, useless way)

Just revisited Edge magazine and downloaded the free edition. It's utterly fabulous, crisp retina text, hi res graphics, interactive features, trailers, music, animations. Love it, sorely tempted to subscribe.

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

Not really. Their iPad 3 didn't all of a sudden become shit. It's still (as in right now) the number one tablet and when the revised one starts to ship it'll just get knocked down to second place. FACT! ;)

I've still got my iPad 2 and that'll be the 3rd best in a few weeks. Good enough for me and better than any of that Android tat that's doing the rounds.

it did become around half as fast as the latest one, much sooner than you'd normally expect it to though!

Everything is blazing fast on the 3, bar the odd 3D game at full res, like Galaxy on Fire 2, which seems to struggle a little, hence it's options to run 1440 or thereabouts. . This'll only get worse when the 4 arrives, I expect games will fun fine at 1024 on old models, and great on the new one at full res, but the 3 will be the red headed step child. Not really arsed, I like the idea of gaming on my 3, but hardly ever do. All the non-3D stuff will be blazing fast for another year or two.

I'm toying with the idea of flogging my 3 anyway, and getting a mini. Size will make that a billion times more useful to me . I could probably live with the old res, but Ive got misgivings if its only got 512mb ram - I can't go back to checkerboard Safari when you've only got a couple of tabs open.

@yegon I'd wait half a year for a 'new' iPad Mini with retina display and 1 GB of RAM if I were you ;-)
Anyone have an idea how much is this 4th gen iPad going to cost in Europe? $499 is not very telling.

Retina v2 is inevitable, but in 6 months? Doubt it, screen cost and more importantly a better cpu and bigger battery in the same chassis sounds more like Q4 2013 for me. 42.5kw/h battery in the 3/4, you'd assume the mini would need at least 30kw/h, double the current 16.5kw/h, to deliver 10hrs battery life. Tricky in smaller devices, especially since we know battery technology long ceased to keep up with Moore's law, more's (excuse the pun) the pity.

Exorbitantly priced though the mini is, I reckon it's that high so Apple can sell the next one at same price, without having to increase the price.

    Strange.

My iPad will no longer connect to the webinterface of my NAS. Neither (and worse) will 8Player rendering it largely useless. iOS5 and iPad 2

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Got my eye on a refurb iPad 2 on the Argos eBay store, am I being overly optimistic in hoping it drops in price tomorrow as the 4 is launched?
