I'm beginning to doubt that they stick to their "don't be evil" mantra.

Please rename this thread The 'Google are evil' thread.
I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually manage to win that one... given how pervasive lobbying is in the US. Sigh.

I'm sure there's something more to this kind of story.

Cos if there isn't, Google, fuck off.

It used to be that the best name was something unique and "empty" that could be given meaning by the company that owned it.

    Walkman, wii, xbox, aerobie, layzboy

Wtf with all the Glass, Paper, Edge, Candy etc? Why not call them Strog, Eilers or Çait?

    Piss poor by the lot.

Anyone know how to set up Google now so it can sort my itinerary out for my trip to Rome this week?

@ILoveThrashMetal put everything in your calendar with correct times and reminders and locations etc and it should do its best to remind you where you need to be and what time you need to set off.

    Driverless car prototype revealed

You'd think they'd at least have the option for a manual override. Maybe they'll include that later.

Or not. That'll teach me for not reading the article.

It has an emergency stop button.

I really wish they'd stop using that kind of music in every tech vid.

I'm reminded of this really interesting article from The Guardian a while ago:

Google and their big AI project

    Quite long, but worth reading.

I'd be better if it didn't have that sinister spinning dalek appendage on top.

In order to stop cybercrime and government snooping, Google seem to be assembling their own superhero team.

I met George Hotz a couple of times, he was sharing an apartment with a friend. Bought him a drink for fucking Sony over.

Fuck me that is some clever shit. Doubt it will come to my part of the world.

On another note, i am slowly getting more scared of how much stuff Google Now can do on android. Is clever and useful, but do have to wonder where it stops.

Right so I have to have a strange blue arrow to the left of search results.

Rather than being able to scroll down the page using my keypad I seem to go from result to result individually.

How do I fix this fuck up?

Disabling instant search from Google's search settings page works, but it does disable the other things instant search does.

Yeah, it only seems to occur if I return to the search results after clicking a link.

I read this morning that Google now spends more on lobbying the US government than Goldman Sachs.

    Hooray for Google! :/

I read some article somewhere recently about Google eventually turning into Buy'N'Large, the everything company in Wall-E. Maybe they could 'do' the next World War for us, and tell us the outcome, rather than doing it the usual much-loss-of-life route. It will allow the world economy to keep going, and we can continue eating processed cheese in peace.
And also welcome to Google Town.

Which san Fransisco residents are unhappy With.

It pretty frigtening, the verge link is a good read btw. Also what are peoples view generally on Silicon Valley? Seems they are becoming a law upon themselves.

Something similar, albeit on a much smaller scale, is happening at their EU HQ in Dublin. I used to live right next to it, the more hipsters they hired the more property prices in that area went through the roof, not to mention a lot of them beig ignorant twats that act like the surrounding area is part of their campus.

Since Google provides them with free services (gym/pool, free food and their own bar area) to keep them at their premises for most of the time of day, they don't put much effort into integrating into local life either .. which I suppose is their own perogative but probably not that great for those who lived in the area for many years and decades.

Glad I moved away last year as it felt a bit sect like given the place was completely overrun by them, wouldn't be able to afford the rent there now anyways.
