I hope that Jose Padilha gets the job. The first Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad) is probably one of the best crime dramas of all time, I´ve heard a lot of good things about the second and he also did a fantastic documentary called Bus 174 that is about a hostage situation that went bad on a bus in Brazil. -

I don't have any objections to them making another Robocop movie, but does it really have to be a remake instead of, like, a new film? -

Mask on = faceless killing machine

Registered 8 years agoOf course wilsons character will be dead against it, but the shouty captain will assign Robocop to be his partner anyway, at which point we will be treated to a hilarious "settling in" montage from when wilson first takes Robocop home. This will be to the tune of "good golly miss molly" and will include Robocop running down the street after a racoon shouting "DEAD OR ALIVE YOU'RE COMING WITH ME".
Then Robo gets hit by an ice cream van folding it in half covering the whole block in ice cream! Hilarious!! -

For me it’s not about how Hollywood it is, or how dark it is. It’s about what it has to say for itself.
The original was a true 80s film, in that it said something about the era it was set it. It’s a comment on what was happening with the media at that time.
It’s possible that the remake could take the essence of what Robocop was about beneath the surface, and make it relevant to the world today. There is precedent for this – the Body Snatchers films or whatever. If it does that then it’ll be a relvent and justified remake for me.
However, just making really gritty film about a robot cop will not cut it. -

Registered 11 years agoHis opaque visor is part of the icon. Give him visible eyes and you're not makIng Robocop anymore, not pure.
Of course the director might be making something of this change. It mIgut not be an exceedingly lazy way to push your own vision of the character. Then again, it could be just as ridiculous as if you made a new SW movie and had R2-D2 loaded with weapons and able to fly.
