@Flying_Pig Good stuff! What are you interested in?

I don't have games on my phone so can't help you there, but the main apps I use:

    Whatsapp
    ES File Explorer
    Foxfi - wireless tether
Tapatalk - To view many forums in one place
    Twicca - Twitter client
    Opera Classic
    Dropbox

Is it? Because I'm not seeing the benefits over the mobile site.

Thanks - I'm not after anything specific, just cool apps :)

    I'll give these a go

    This.

That is absolutely not a criticism of the app itself, which is great, but it's another app. Eurogamer's mobile site is just another tab on Chrome for me.

  • Deleted user 23 June 2013 10:06:41
Yeah, I don't want to criticise it as it is a great app. But it's not more convenient to me than another tab, unless there is something I've missed.

It's faster and way more user friendly than the mobile site as far as I can tell

Yeah, the app shows more threads/posts per page (font dependent) and things like setting a dark theme for at night, default home page and just a slicker experience compared to the browser.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

  • Deleted user 23 June 2013 11:49:51
Cool will have another play around.

Picked up Sonic as they are all on sale at the moment but it seems a bit buggy on my Nexus 7. Jumping generates an annoying static noise which was driving me up the wall.

Yeah it does that on Sonic 1. Restart the app and it should fix it. It seems to be random.

In other news, I bought FF4 and it is brilliant. Touch screen D pad sucks but it's manageable. Such a lovely game and reminds me how fucking shit FF games are nowadays.

I bought Shelter the other day and I'm still a bit unsure.

It's a zombie apocalypse card game.

For a while I thought it was too easy but that turned out to be the first three "missions". They're ment to show you the ropes but are a bit dull to be honest. It wasn't until I got my ass handed to me that the game started to show off its potential.

But there are still some things that need to be ironed out. THe flow of battle is slow up until you as a player is attacked. Then it's just a deduction of points you hardly even notice.

Small things like that. Has big potential and needs some more playtime before I pass a final judgement. But one to keep an eye on for sure.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Sorry in advance for this one...

Just defected from iOS to Android, but am a total Android novice so would appreciate some help from those EG'ers in the know.

First up - what games and apps are considered essential?

Also - will the current Humble Android Bundle work on my HTC One?
I am in the exact same boat here! Waiting for delivery of my new HTC One! :-) Flying_Pig let me know what you've found out in the past 6 days!

Any other tips/tricks/apps/recommendations/pics are welcome :-D

    Get uTorrent and DICE player.
Also, get either SwiftKey or Flow
AirDroid to manage things wirelessly from a computer
PRESS is a nice RSS reader
7x7 is a simple puzzler that got really good now with the Achievements and High Scores
DashClock Widget is very useful and looks good.
Lookout Security has a "find my phone" feature that can be nice. Also does some virus scanning but stick to trusted sources and don't irate and you have an even better protection.

And if TruCaller does what Eniro does in Sweden it's a godsend.

@f00b_inc - I'm still working it all out TBH :)

It's definitely worth getting the current Humble Android Bundle. While some of the games seem a bit 'meh', Frozen Synapse is worth the asking price alone!

The PS Mobile App is also pretty decent and has some very good games on it.

I also love the EG App!

I'm still wrestling with which internet browser is best. I think I still prefer Safari :)

Opera Mobile is pretty good. Chrome is pretty good. Didn't like Dolphin Browser.

Played McPixel from the Humble Bundle earlier - very fun game. Perfect for a quick 5 minute blast!

    ending

Ending is a single player turn based puzzle game about movement and death.
Recommended for people who like board games, chess and roguelikes.
It's something of a curiosity but I like it.

I've been playing Star Wars pinball quite a bit recently. You can select "local hotseat" on that where you each play a ball in turn.

Sounds like it's improved since I tried it then.

Not as nice as I used to be

My son (5) plays Angry Birds, Where's My Water, Fruit Ninja, Abduction and Stupid Zombies.
Of those, Fruit Ninja is probably the simplest to start with.

My son (now three) loves Tap the Frog and Gina the Giraffe - both have free versions available though that means you need to constantly be on ad-avoidance duty. Helped us out on recent travels.

Also, try just searching for things they're interested in e.g. we're in a big fire engine phase so there's a Lego City firefighting game he likes. It's mostly too advanced for him but he's happy to try it together.

We've also found some fun apps which act a bit like games. One is AniWorld which is basically a load of animal pictures and sounds.

Mind you, since the weather's so nice he hasn't been asking to look at this stuff at all!

Rayman Jungle Run perhaps? World of Goo? My youngest will play those but in all honesty she'd rather be drawing pictures using SketchBook.

I have to admit, I haven't looked very hard for games for him.
He loves Angry birds and Angry Birds Star Wars. And I just paid 65p for the full version of Where's My Water - I think those three will keep him going for a while.

For myself, I as usual have too many games to play. I have the three Fighting Fantasy books that I'm dying to find the time to play through for starters...

Not as nice as I used to be
