A team from St Andrews uni (in conjunction with others) have developed a new 'two thumb' keyboard layout, which will be made available as a free Android app.
Normal QWERTY layouts have users typing at about 20 wmp, after practice with this new layout they can manage 37wpm.
Looks pretty interesting. Would it be easy to integrate the new keyboard into existing apps? I presume you set the input method in Android and it overlays it in all apps. (I've never really thought about it as I haven't changed from the default)

Yeah it does that with SwiftKey. I find that a powerful predictive input is far more useful than the keyboard itself, but might give it a try.

Anyone bought Swype now that it's on the play store? Is there any way to transfer the data from the beta over?

Yeah, I picked up Swype. Long time Swiftkey user and Swype seems to pick up some more unusual words than Swiftkey does. I miss Swiftkey's awesome punctuation button though. At the moment, both seem on a par with each other. For me, 69p for the luxury of being able to switch between the two isn't bad.

Fieldrunners 2 (a tower defence game) is finally out on Android. And it is excellent.

Yeah, I foolishly forgot about the backup and sync options within the settings of Swype, Once I sorted that out, my saved words were back. Thanks :)

Just bought magicka, the room and ePSXe ps1 emulator.

The room is fucking excellent, definitely scratches a puzzle solving itch. This is a game made for touch controls as well.

Not tried magicka yet but I bought it for the multiplayer which by all accounts is quite good.

ePSXe. Got a BIOS, downloaded and extracted wipeout 2097 and was all ready so that I could test and refund if it was shit. WOW!
With Sixaxis app tethered and configured it works like a dream. Its just like a remembered as I blasted along to the sounds of prodigy. Maybe a bit blockier :-)

Gonna get some more ps1 games and see if they still gold up. Might actually see what all this FF7 fuss is about.

@crashVoodoo any chance you can walk us through the six axis set up? Don't need to root do you?

If you want to use it wirelessly yeah you need root for that. You need an app called sixaxis controller. In fact I think you only use it wired if the game or app directly supports it. I'll try it out wired shortly.

If you're rooted let me know and I'll whack the steps up. Its actually really easy.

I've got ps1 chrono trigger running like charm, its looks slightly better than the SNES version so I think I'll play that

Could it work without rooting using the WiiController app? I've used that with good results on various emulators, I'd even say it makes some games better to play with the Nunchuk!

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Possibly ... Without trying it I'm not sure. I don't have access to a Wii remote anymore. I'll have a quick look in the settings to see what's supported.

Emulators was one of the reasons I picked up a second hand sixaxis for. Bargain at 9 I thought

Thanks to Bob for recommending Puk - ideal type of game to have on the phone. Great fun. Super Hexagon now has some competition for my 'comfort break' time!

I tried playing GTA 3 with the wiimote, following your recommendation. Sadly it didn't really map very well, and it wasn't clear how/if I could manually assign buttons.
In-game there doesn't appear to be any support for controller input...

With the Nunchuk plugged in as well? I seem to recall the emulators being a tad fiddly with the config, worked well once mapped though. Not sure about GTA3 though.

Yeah, with the Nunchuk. I might even have tried the Classic Controller.
Some of the buttons mapped, but it was a weird config. The joystick on the Nunchuk seemed to be mapped to the camera, but when I moved it and then let go the camera kept moving around Tony's head..
This was with the GTA3 'app' rather than trying to run it through a separate emulator.

Started using VLC player Beta to see if it would play .mkv files as other players would play some without sound. So far it plays them all and smoothly too.

In case anyone is interested, the android version of zen's star wars pinball is on sale at the moment. 69p for the Empire Strikes Back table.

I think it is for star wars day (may 4th) so should be on offer until at least then.

For media players, I never look beyond MXPlayer. Superb controls and never had any slowdown on any file format.

@YenRug Damn, you got me excited then. Been waiting for ages but still not available OTA on my vanilla, unlocked Note
