The Sopranos theme is not original, neither was the formula 1 music.

80s tunes really were the best. Even the Garth Marenghi fake 80s theme tune is brilliant.

    The Sweeney
Black Beauty (which in my mind is crying out for a dance remix)
    Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds
    The Flumps
and finally the most eerie music around, The Moomins, don't know why I find it eerie, just makes me feel uneasy when I hear it, lovely tune though

    Definitely!

And shame on everyone for not mentioning Bagpuss. That music just instantly takes me back to my childhood.

Not watched that in 20 years, surprised how good the title animation is(apart from one filler blip with panthro or whatever he was called). Shit theme mind.

    Some awesome ones:

I am with the OP - The Sopranos. Think it's the only opening credits of any show I've never ever skipped through all seasons on DVD.

Twin Peaks is a close second.

The smokey, slow jazz intro of Homicide- Life on the street matches the world-weary characters really well, that gets my vote.

How is it that the Mysterious Cities of Gold hasn't come up yet? Easily the greatest childrens show in the history of man. It was even better when Silver Fox Schofield used to sing over the ending credits as well.

I also have many fond memories of watching Grandstand come the weekend.

Oh yeah, as said above, Thundercats duh how could i forget that. One more to add to the list of great tv tunes, a bit of a nerdy one, well a lot of a nerdy tbh the theme to Star Treks Enterprise who russle watson sang the theme. And i'm not even a trekkie .........."Honest".
