Another one actually is in year 13 at school, someone had managed to upload Quake III to the 6th form computer room so there were 14 of us or so (might be less but every computer was taken) were in a massive network deathmatch rather than revising for the afternoon's exams.

Best thing too were the names we chose - bit sick but when it flashed up in the corner "Barry George fragged Jill Dando", it was rather chucklesome.

This is a great idea for a thread (if it hasn't already been done a billion times before - ah, who cares if it has!)....

I missed FFVII and Metal Gear Solid back in '97 & '98 (I was an N64 owner). So I've just downloaded them on PSN for my PS3 - I don't care how old the graphics look, I just wanna feel like it's the late 90s again!!!

I did play Die Hard Trilogy on a friend's PS1 alright, that brings back some great memories!

I've been a PC gamer since the mid 90's, with an N64 then an Xbox and a Gamecube. I never owned a Sony console until I bought the PS3. Most of my nostagia for games comes from Nintendo and PC games as a result! So I cry a little inside when I see the direction The Big N has taken with the Wii (though the virtual console is a really cool idea).

Things that stand out over the years:

    Seeing Trans-Am on my mate's dad's Speccy.

Buying Knight Lore for my own Speccy (awesome big-box packaging - the first?)

Driller, Head Over Heels, Academy (all still Spectrum)

Going on holiday to Spain with my parents each year and propping up the local economy playing Out Run in the arcades.

Launch hype for the Amiga 500... F1 and Interceptor

    Playing Shades on Micronet.

Amiga demoscene during my college/uni years (oops, not gaming)

Hacking around each weekend with a mate making crap shooters and rpgs.

Setting up a dikumud on the university servers and invoking the wrath of the technicians.

Seeing a PlayStation running Wipeout in the local branch of Chips.

Final Fantasy VII (same reasons as others!)

Final Fantasy VIII (just hit the spot... still my favourite)

...so many more but this is getting quite long, sorry =)

This is a good one. The network in my school was nerfed to buggery. Someone managed to get Unreal Tournament going and it was amazing.

The one game we could play was Hearts and we had many a morning spent playing 4-player Hearts, hehe.

The whole famliy playing Summer Games, Winter Games and Leader Board on the C64.

SFII and Micro Machines marathons on the Megadrive.

Worms on the PC. All grouped round the PC laughing our heads off - days could be lost to this.

Family sessions at on pretty much every version of Tiger Woods.

playing 2p player bubble bobble on the nes for hours with a mate who ended up going to jail for six years for dealing

    mammoth bomberman sessions.

playing sfII in fairs where they had those dodgy versions of the game where all the special moves were ridiculous ie ryu had ten fireballs all at once

finding the original ISS cart in a puddle near my house, which started a love affair that only ended this year

FF7. All of it. The scale of it, the story, the intial "WTF is this shit? Whya re they waiting to attack?" closely followed by the penny dropping. Amazing.

Other than that, sitting down to play the megadrive for the first time. First game played was Road Rash. SEGA!

More recently: Completing single player campaign on MW2. How f'ing amazing is it?!?!? First time i've said "wow" whilst gaming in long time.

Beating the PES 3 UK champion at a mate's house was pretty cool.

(He's shown holding a wad of cash in the PES6 booklet if anyone has that laying around)

Playing Rockstar ate my Hamster on a mates computer when we were about 12/13 and pissing ourselves laughing at the fact we were using our teachers names for band names.

Going into town with my brother to hire out games for the Atari ST (and usually copying them AND photocopying the whole manual to get by the copy protection - yes I was a filthy pirate).

Hooking up two PCs with a null modem cable to play multiplayer (well, 2 player) Doom.

Finishing that big star wars wire frame sit-in cabinet arcade game thing. And then doing it all again.

    And to add:
Playing the DAoC open beta with some online friends and getting hammered by some higher level nonsense animal and running away in fits of laughter. Good times.

Maxiing the score on Wizball on the C64 (999,999). Joy. Then disappointment when i realised the game doesnt actually allow itsellf to be completed.

Playing CS with some other EGers, sitting in a flat, all online and having a blast.

Playing tourney matches of CS 1.6 and having the odd round of absolute godlike skill.

Playing WoW (MC and BWL) with the same guildmates and sitting in a different flat with same EGers arguing over tactics. Also WoW. Grinding pvp nonstop for a couple months to help a friend gain HW and reaching General myself - absolutely love pvp no matter how unbalanced.

    MP Goldeneye matches.

Taking on a Star Destroyer and all its squadrons with khanivor in xwing and wiping them out, all of them :D

Rail gun kills while flying through the air in quake3 team arena - brilliant every time.

    Ohh.

The bit in FFVII where you have just come from Gold Saucer and are making your way up into the mountains that leads to Corel. Something about the sunset and the music in that area of the game.

GTA3. Just chilling about in one of the Yakuza Stingers, MSX FM on the go, busting up to somewhere with a good view to roll up something sneaky, take in the scenery before kicking off again.

SNES. LttP - managing to get to every room and area in the game, collecting every piece of heart. Also getting past the first dungeon of dark world always felt good.

OoT - I really like the Forest Temple. The music. Very Aphex Twin SAW2!

God Of War - when you finally leave Athens and the game opens up proper. I kept thinking "can this game get any more epic, it must be ending soon?" and it kept on delivering spade upon spade of awesome. The music in the temple is amazing and it perfectly captures that "greek epic of old" feel perfectly. Like watching the old Sinbad films.

FFVII & FFVIII - mentoring my mates through the games over many years. I just loved sitting and taking the game in as they progressed through it.

Flower - biggest breath of fresh air ever that.

Halo 2 - my first real online experience of note. Great memories were 1) some bloke going mental at some young american at the end of the match because "he took his weapon", delivering an amazing rant of "I know Bungie, they will come round your house and throw your xbox out of the window". 2) A girl resoundingly beating everyone, as a pink Master Chief, declaring "how do you all like that? I'm a girl and I beat you all so hard!" and 3) some bloke constantly declaring "you go faster if you jump" prompting me to co-ordinate everyone on a bunny hop launch down the middle of the map to much lols on both teams.

Warhawk - those moments where the entire battle is so frantic in a small area of a big map, tanks shelling, warhawks dropping bombs and exploding in flaming fragments in the sky, people dying everywhere, all sorts of shit with people trying to cap a spawn... then the dust settles, and you're left standing, the flag is your teams colour and you have 1 square of health left. I have to say, its the best online game I've played. Please Spacehawk, be a sequel, be awesome.

Bioshock - entering rapture gave me jaw drop moments. Plus the endless wittering from the splicers. I find a lot of FPS games uninvolving and I abandon them (Killzone 2, Half Life 2, Call Of Duty)... and this is the first one since Halo that got me sucked right in to the end.

Metal Gear Solid 1 - entering the Tank Hanger for the first time. I love the music on that bit.

Soul Reaver 2 - I could just watch the intro and listen to Raziel's monologues forever! I'm big on talkie games eh?

Elite A500 - booting it up for the first time hooked up to a hifi, to see a previously Acorn Electron favourite of ours with COLOUR and POLYGONS!
