I couldn't see a thread for this film, Matthew Vaughn's (Stardust, Layer Cake) adaptation of Mark Millar's exploration into real life Superhero stuff. What would happen if normal people decided to become heroes? It's been done pretty well by Watchmen (well, the comic anyway), but this looks like it's about to give a visceral, fresh new twist on the genre.

    Here's the teaser:

    http://www.firstshowing.net/2009/11/10/awesome-early-teaser-trailer-for-matthew-vaughns-kick-ass/

The first half is basically the first few pages of issue one. I've seen a few other scenes from this and it looks totally brilliant.

    Can't wait.

Wow. 188 uber-geeks online and no love for the Kick Ass. Very odd indeed.

Didn't think the trailer seemed that funny, which is a bad sign for a comedy.

It's a pretty dark, black, very violent comedy though if the book is anything to go by.

The director has said the film is being pitched for the PG-13 audience... I think that would suggest the film will not be following the comic very closly.

Are you sure? I thought this was going pretty hard R in the states. Regarding the scenes I've had a look at, there is no way at all this will cut at a PG-13.

In particular, a scene with Big Daddy shooting at Hit Girl wearing a bullet proof vest (she's an 11 year old vigilante ffs - not the stuff of PG-13s) from about 10 metres to MTFU for a fight later. Also another ultra-violent scene where Kick Ass goes into a drug den, only for Hit Girl to come in and kill all in sight viciously and without mercy in a shower of blood.

    This is an 18, I reckon. Maybe a 15 at a push.

Really looking foward to this, and itīs not going to be a PG-13 movie. From what i heard thereīs some very violent scenes in the movie.

Best strike that one off the list then.

Review here. Sounds good. There's a vid here with Nic Cage and Chloe Moretz that should give you an idea of what the movie is going to be like...

Looks like it could be fun, as long as the main character isn't too cringeworthy. Could it be Nic Cage in good film, Shock!?

    I hope so.

    It'll be shite.

Can't believe adults actually watch films based on the classification.

OOOOOHHHH. A little kid swearing! How edgy!

This will be a complete bag o' shite but possibly worth watching for Nic 'The Bees!!!!!!' Cage who is the best-worst actor ever.

Yup, good, wholesome, mindless, quirky comedy action. Naysayers be damned!
Aside from Spuds' comment on Cageyboy, that was spot on :)

It's a fair point for some films, 12 rated Die Hard sequel or 18 rated Die Hard sequel? There's nothing to say that the 12 rated one won't be a great film, but you know instantly that the 18 (or more likely 15 these days) rated film will be more in keeping with the original.

As I understand it, the source material for Kick-Ass is most definitely 'adult', so a PG-13/12 rated film is always going to be holding back for the sake of it.

Trust me, from the scenes I watched a while back this is not a cliched US teen comedy.
