Him and the educated guy with the glasses from Nigeria are the funniest one's in it. Most of the rest are as wooden as Pinnochio..;-)

Used to love it in the early days though..

    DesmOnd.

Is it actually as good as we remember it or has it dated horribly?

It's as good as I remember, which is to say, not very good at all.

I dont remember Desmonds being funny at all. In fact I think it was pretty shit. Wasnt it on to fulfill some kind of ethnic quota like the awful Real McCoy and that Indian one with Meera Syal in?

Can someone explain this for me?

Or am I remembering the wrong show?

It was stacked full of half-baked stereotypes.

    Less racism more borderline exploitation.

Or in fact neither, simply unfunny dross.

It felt like a bunch of writers took a walk around Brixton for a few hours and then went off and wrote a sitcom around what they had seen. Only got it very wrong.

Oh. I just remember it as being like any other crap sitcom, but featuring blacks with strong jamaican/caribbean accents.

    :(

Very poor pretend Caribbean accents I might add. Most of the cast were from Guyana.

I never found Desmonds funny but then growing up in small-town Scotland I think I was pretty far from the target audience. "That Indian one with Meera Syal" - do you mean goodness gracious me? I thought that had enough good moments to make it worth a watch, myself.

Yes yes, but did Desmond have a fit daughter or not? I think that's the key point everyone seems to be missing.

The white's guy's mate went on to do a fair amount of TV work. He was also one of the main characters in The Real MCoy. I quite liked some of the sketches on that show, especially the really ugly guy with massive teeth and tissue all over his face from razor cuts. A lot of it was cliches but it made me laugh at the time.

And wasn't the grandma in Eastenders for a bit? Used to hang around with some old bird with white hair and Dot.
