Was made redundant at the start of Feb as a recruitment consultant. Been contacted by loads of recruitment companies and could get a job tomorrow but recruitment does my head in.

Applied to about 35 jobs and only got 2 interviews. i have got an interview for a Welfare to Work company but its just business dev for getting new jobs on for the long term unemployed.

They want a power point presention on a contact strategy to gain new jobs over the next 6 months.

    Fuck. that

I thought it would be coaching candidates and that but its not.

On the flip side I am back in my local brewery managed house pub full time. At a time when there is a new manager who needs an assistant. thats going to be me! (hopefully) I get decent days off to spend with family too.

The interview for it lasted 5 mins

For the guy that failed the Uni interview. If it was for Oxford or Cambridge and you are not southern they would just refuse you on principle.

At a University open day I went to talk to the Oxford representative and was told that I was not welcome. She did not even ask me my grades they just have a no Brummy policy. She refused to speak to everyone that approached her and just insulted everyone. Cambridge could not even be bothered to turn up.

You must have set a bad first impression ha ha. I have a few friends from Brum who went to either Oxford or Cambridge.

That was just part of the test. You were supposed to launch into a rousing and empowering speech about snobbery and elitism and fighting for what's right, finishing with you turning and walking away with your head held high, uni representative in shock, before hearing the slow ripple of applause growing around you.

@Fonzie are they Public school friends? I work with quite a lot of Cambridge graduates. There are a few northerns but they are all privately educated and speak with southern accents.

Difficult in this market  but you should try and approach interviews with the mindset that you're also interviewing them. The job had to be right for you too, including the people you will be working for.

    gutted
absolutely blitzed the first interview a couple weeks ago, just getting back from the second now

so I found myself in a technical interview with a piece of kit I've never seen in my life, cue lots of desperate attempts of humour trying to bide time while I fumble around trying to work out just to bloody turn it on! Oh boy.

Would of been brilliant too with a huge chunk of the job filming shoots for Football interviews, press conferences including Champions League etc

Are you in the cameraman "industry" or was this your first job?

Been looking at it recently but it looks a bit of a minefield.

What are your top tips for failing interviews?

I need something subtle but brilliant. I'm being sent for an interview I don't want by the dole. Low pay, long distance, late finishes and weekend work do not make a good job in my opinion. If I don't turn up they could stop my benefits.

It's especially annoying as I've got a job pretty much lined up that starts about a week after this one for better money, better hours and that sounds quite interesting. The dole however, in their infinite wisdom are being dicks about it.

I've started by handwriting my CV instead of printing one off. No spelling mistakes, but it looks shoddy. Anything else you'd recommend?

    I'm tempted to do a Trainspotting. ;)

Thumbs up to the dole office doing all they can to get people into work, but i have to admit, some years ago, i found myself in the same position. What did i do?
I showed up to the interview, i was pleasant polite etc, when asked why i wanted the job, i gave it to them straight '..the Job centre had sent me..' which was code for 'thanks but no thanks, i am not interested..' besides, the location was a good hour away, and the wages simply did not reflect the costs involved in getting to and from work. Needless to say, i wasn't offered the job.

She was a staff editor at ITV but knocked it on the head when she got pregnant.

Oh, would have no idea with editing sorry Nick
Went the production runner, shooting, camera hire..and now hire, tech help and shooting again route myself..nothing planned more falling into each role!

originally did a bit of post running for my first job but quickly realised that staying in a dark room all day long didn't appeal :p
have many friends that stuck to it though I could ask, Maybe what the best agencies there are nowadays?

Coincedently my wife is having trouble staying in TV after having our daughter, it's not a very family friendly industry unless you're high enough to swing working from home all the time.

Got baby number two on the way this November so she'll probably have to give it up completely unless she gets stuck with post production paperwork for months on end!
