Nothing like getting in there early!

Rio and Madrid are the last two in the running. Rio big favourite. Result coming up...

Edit: will be held in Rio de Janeiro, first Olympics in South America.

Let's put this thread in stasis for 7 years.

I feel it should be Stoneybridge but I think Rio will get it.

    This space left intentionally blank.

Not surprised that Chicago went out at the first hurdle. Michelle Obama's speech this morning was a syrupy as can be. It would have inclined me to not vote for them.

Considering there are currently 216 different Olympic nations, it's a bit of an outrage that America seem to get it so often.

By my calculations the next time America get the Olympics should be 2873.

Based on those calculations, I look forward to the next winter Olympics in San Marino and the next summer Olympics in Sudan.

They do get it too often though. Madrid would have taken the piss as bit as well, considering Barcelona had it in 1992.

I'm very glad it went to Rio, partly because 20 years between yank Olympics is way too short a gap, but also because two consecutive West European Olympics wouldn't have been good, either.

Indeed. Hopefully the 2014 World Cup will make sure the infrastructure is tip top! God I want to win the lottery to go to that

I was kind of hoping it would be in Tokyo. Just seems like an interesting place.

I thought I'd get an early start getting hyped for the next Olympics which will be in a better timezone for me.

Plus Rugby 7's will be great. Unlike a lot of other sports (golf, tennis, football, etc.) a gold medal at the Olympics will instantly become the top honour in the sport. If it was real rugby then it would be a poor cousin to the World Cup just like in football.

Tempted to go to this... but Rio seems like the sort of place you get robbed, stabbed or kidnapped. =/

Surely they'll ensure it's safe for tourists. If Olympic visitors were to get kidnapped it would do irredeemable damage to the country's tourism.

There's four years to go, I think there's enough time to put together a Team EG.

Yeah, that place will be a police state come the games. They won't be taking any risks.

    That's a good idea!

Though with that said, they may get complacent if it all goes well.

Guys, it's Brazil, not Bolivia. Since when are random kidnappings a regular occurrence?

In fairness, I'd probably class that as a mugging of sorts though. It's also mentioned on the UK gov advice page: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/south-america/brazil1/#safetySecurity

When watching the running I'll just constantly think of the MP3 stadium level.

    SUCH A GOOD GAME.
