Open world, cover system, multiplayer, co-op play ;)

No seriously, it's the same problem the Batman AA team are going to face, making a sequel to an already great title.

Open world? Interesting. Will still need to have close quarters for scares etc, but maybe let you choose your own path through to your objective?

backtracking in a corridor game is tiresome.

Yeah I agree, if you're just pushing forward all the time there's no sense of scale or shape of the ship etc, backtracking helps get a feel for the place. Nothing wrong with it, and the original had so many unique areas it never made it boring.

I just hope they get the atmosphere as spot on as last time. The first had it's many flaws but atmosphere wasn't it, but as we've seen in other franchises, atmosphere is the hardest thing to replicate, even STALKER's sequels can't hit the same nail that the original did despite their best efforts.

Will take a masterstroke to top the first though.

How did the first one end again? Isaac put the tablet thingy back on the planet and eacapes? Wonder what the story will be for this one.

He has also been driven entirely insane by the marker

He has? I can't remember that. Really should play through it again, top stuff. Maybe you won't be Isaac this time then, he just pops up now and again, although I hope they don't give him a voice.

A stronger story wouldn't go amiss this time though, with more purpose.

Extraction has a better story and a better grip on the universe, seeing as the comics/anime film/games all conspire around the same events, having seen most of it now it really is a deep universe, but Extraction told it all a little better.

I expect they will bring the marker back to earth or some other planet or station.. I can't remember how the first one ended either, I know he didn't die & I remember taking the marker back down to the planets surface, but how did he escape?
  • Deleted user 24 November 2009 08:36:29
I think he flew off the planet, and then when you think everything is safe he takes his helmet off as he is flying the ship then his dead girlfriend jumps out at him. Scared the shit out of me when it happened.

That's spot on, Cheezy - I only finished it last week. :-)

I remember when it happened, I just started to relax then I nearly jumped out of my seat. It's definately one of my favourite games of this gen, it really surprised me how good it is and how much better than Resi5 it is.

I really liked it, so I'm hopeful for the sequel.

I didn't really notice any backtracking, though - the areas weren't really big enough for the walking around to get dull. Did people really complain about that?
  • Deleted user 24 November 2009 09:36:07
I did notice it but it really didn't bother me, gave me a sense of location and made the game better for it imo. The atmosphere is spot on in the game though, especially if you have some surround sound headphones:)

I've been crossing my fingers that there is going to be a Dead Space 2 after finishing the first one earlier this years.
I'd be happy if the game is the same as the first but just on a different environment.
    Or a prequel.

Just in case there was still any doubt... :-)

If the multiplayer mode was similar to horde I'll be very happy, but if its a shitty generic version of TDM then I'll cry.

Well considering that the first game makes a point of telling you that members of the whacky religious cult are whisked off in secret to be stored on a ship when they die. No doubt necromorphs hitting that body payload resulting in a ship stuffed to bursting with a reanimated corpse army will be a plot thread somewhere.

They'll probably have something tiresome like it setting course for Earth orbit. Got to save Earth! It could be good if it went a bit Metal Gear and you worked in the innards of the ship trying to sabotage it, crawling around vents, welding doors shut etc. destroy it piece by piece till you can set off a nice reactor overload to burn everything clean.

Did anyone else notice in the link blerk posted that the 360 apparently is outselling the PS3 3:1 in the run up to Christmas? Crazy if thats true.

That's only in the UK and only according to one source. I wouldn't take it as fact until Chart Track says it's true.

why is that crazy. One is near the pricing sweet spot, one is still too expensive.
  • Deleted user 25 November 2009 18:23:35
I thought we the new slim that Sony would easily beat MS this christmas.

They have Uncharted 2's excellent multiplayer to learn/steal from.

I can't even imagine a Dead Space deathmatch. The controls are a little 'clunky' for that.
  • Deleted user 25 November 2009 19:04:21
Why is Uncharteds multiplayer soo good? I don't have a PS3 so I wouldn't know.
