OK so I absolutely loved the first Dead Space but have somehow let this one slip me by. I checked the price on Amazon the other day and you can pick up Dead Space 2 for 13 now!

I've only really got time for 1 new game at the minute though and I can't decide between this and Gears of War 3. I've never played a Gears game so fancy giving it a go but it's twice the price of DS 2.

Basically my question is (to those who've played both games) which game would you say has the better single player campaign? I know GOW 3 has an amazing multiplayer but I'll prob play the single player more than anything.

Dead Space 2 is really tempting me but I'm a little put off by some people's comments that it doesn't quite have the same magic as the first game.

Your thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated and thanks in advance :)

The first one is better, no doubt. 13 is well worth the price for DS2 though; it's very enjoyable and the New Game+ feature actually works this time as you can take your upgrades to higher difficulties.

It also features the insane sounding 'hard-core' mode.

Dead Space 2 is pretty Gearsy, but Gears 3 is really Gearsy.

    Hope that helps. :p

Thanks Lexx, 13 really is a bargain isn't it! Don't think I'll be risking the 'Hardcore' mode though. I found Dead Space hard enough on Normal difficulty!

@ King_Edward but how spacey is Gears 3? And is Dead Space more or less spacey than Dead Space 2?

Monsieur Blade - Dead Space 2 is in a different league to Gears Of War 3, which isn't even the best Gears Of War game in my opinion. (Prefer 2.)

After spending almost all of last year telling anyone who would listen/read that Dead Space 2 was the GOTY it struck me today that I only played through it the one time. Fired it up today, a year since I last played it, and went through the first three chapters. It is brilliant.

    Cheers for your thoughts coomber.

Think I'm gonna go for dead space 2 over gears 3. I'm really in the mood for an immersive single player game and it sounds like a lot of gears qualities lie in the multiplayer.

Plus u can never get tired of shooting alien limbs off!! :-)

Woo finished this on Zealot now, which was pretty fun with a fully upgraded line, plasma and contact beam. The end boss took me about 20 seconds using the beam this time :D

Really not up for a third play on Hardcore mode at the moment, i'll save that for a rainy day I think!

Just started this on PC, pretty much my first foray into 1080p PC gaming for a good while. Looking great with everything whacked up. One lovely touch, is the instant update to onscreen graphics when you switch from mouse to 360 pad. Seamless, love it.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

I'm very close to finishing this game on Zealot mode, but I'm completely fucking tooled up, so it's barely a challenge. Soon I will start the dreaded and famous Hard-core mode... Any suggestions for where I should make my saves? I'm hearing Chapter 6, 9 and 12? What does the mighty EG hive-mind think?

I should point out that I have Severed, so I'll be starting out with a nice suit to make the start of the game that bit easier. I'd also appreciate some advice on what weapons to carry/upgrade, rig too.

My feeling is, get the first two relatively cheap health upgrades, max out the plasma cutter and stasis... Any other suggestions will be gladly received.

Question: I gave up on DS2 a few months ago and I don't remember why. The last thing I recall from the game is Isaac drilling into his own eyeball in order to attain 'true sight' or something. I stopped at around that point. Was I close to the end?

@sirtacos You had pretty much finished the game from there. You have a brief chase sequence, then it's pretty much the end boss. I can understand someone quitting there though, as it's right before a stupid eternally regenerating necromorph.

Ah yes, now I remember why I quit. Glad to learn I didn't miss out on much. I'll just youtube the ending. Thanks!

I don't get why people don't like the regenerators, you can't kill them by definition so just stun them and run

    +1

I too am still of the opinion it was the GOTY of that year by miles. There was no other game released that did what it set out to do as flawlessly and with such polish. It wasn't original, but it played amazingly well and was properly scary.

The first three quarters was easily the most enjoyable gaming experience of 2011. Probably my favourite third person shooter after RE4.

Ok, so playing this at the moment. It's alright, fun shooting and setting even if it is less scary than a haunted house ride.

Something that's making it harder than it should be is the sound. If I'm facing away from something, it's totally silent. I'm fairly sure that shouldn't be happening. Anyone got any suggestions for how to fix it? I'm using Windows 8.1.
