Never finished DS1 - last boss was just too hard. God knows wby I got DS2 (oh yea it was a few quid on Steam). Haven't played it through yet...the opening sequence is a bit odd - I think I'm going the right way but get insta-killed. Not a good start. I'll try again when I am in the mood.

I'm loving 2 just as much as 1 at the moment, and i'm about half way I think.

Wouldn't say it 1 was much better at all so far! I loved the opening sequence, and didn't get hit at all. You take the path away from the monsters :p

You just need to upgrade the right gear. I went with fully upgraded assault rifle and armour, plus tons of ammo/health.

Heh well i'll see! I'll have a fully upgraded plasma cutter by the end of my first run-through so hopefully that'll see me through!

Funny, cos all the reviews referred to the campaign as an A-B piece of piss.

I haven't played the second one, but what Deckard's saying is how I felt about the first one. The clunkiness became too much when that invincible super zombie turned up. It wasn't that scary either once you got past the terrifying intro. Definitely more of an action game.

For me I just like how brutal it all is. The whacks and the noises and screams, punch of your firepower. It just sounds and feels perfect; the sound design on both the games is excellent.

2 isn't scary though i'll admit that, all the scares are so obvious. Oh look frozen things the size a man could fit inside. I wonder what will pop out of one of those!

The only issue I have is that is isn't very clever. I know that necromorph lying still on the floor will attack me, so I shoot it before it even moves. I know one will pop out of this vent...it makes it not scary.

It's tense, due to the ass kicking the enemies to do you, but not scary.
DS1 wasn't scary imo either. The old style survival horror of having limited ammo was by far the 'scariest' thing about it knowing you're about to get swamped any second.

Sounds a decent enough blast :)

I've only actually properly played the second one. It's 5-6/10 game. I was surprised at how sparse the game actually is, I was expecting more things to read and listen to; but there wasn't that much.

I've done the first chapter of the first game. Seem to enjoy it a lot more.

First one is better IMO, struggle to see why the second got so much more universal praise. It's still good but I was expecting more following the amount of hype.

I enjoyed both games! They're not amazingly brilliant, but they do have enough of an Alien/Aliens vibe to get by if you're looking for a fix. Good mechanics and they run extremely well on the PC (though, it goes without saying that you've gotta play 'em on a pad).

Still 'n all, Resident Evil 4 is the daddy of this genre, it'll be another decade before anyone tops it.

I preferred the first too but I think the second one was still a fantastic game. Probably one of the reasons it got so much praise was because some websites *cough* perhaps realised they had under-rated the original....?

Its not that its too hard, its just that it stopped being fun and scary and just started to feel like a slightly clunky shooter. Again I'm probably being harsh on it as the first one is one of my favourite games of the generation and this kind of disappointed me.
Pretty much how i felt about it. I thought the original was pretty much perfectly paced, with just the right amount of tense creepy moments & panic ridden attacks.

DS2 towards the end just threw a fuckload of annoying creatures at you over & over again. Enjoyed it overall, but the last few chapters took the shine off it for me.

First game is probably better, but I do like the varied locations of the second.
