    A small snippet from the-magicbox.com:

    - Sony's ICO development team has confirmed that a new title is under development, they plan to reveal the title in near future. The team has also revealed the worldwide sales of ICO, which is around 650,000 copies; and the breakdown is as follows:

    * USA (09/26/01) - 250,000 units
    * Japan (12/06/01) - 160,000 units
    * Asia (01/13/02) - 20,000 units
    * South Korea (02/22/02) - 20,000 units
    * Europe (03/20/02) - 200,000 units

    Yay, sequel! Nay, poor sales! Or are they poor? How many copies does an average game sell and how much does an average 'hit' game sell? Nevertheless, a game like ICO should be in every PS2 owner's home (as it is now, about every 100th PS2 owner has a copy of ICO...)

    Those sales are a disgrace for such a wonderful game. Looking at the breakdown of sales, it's obvious that Sony didn't expect big things from Ico.
    When you consider that the Cube has a user base of less than a quarter of the PS2's. Depending on the genre an average 1st party Cube game will sell 400k in Japan and 800k in the US. Titles like Mario Party 4 sold 908,130 in Japan and 910,040 in the US, though MKDD: sold 1.4 million in the US to 737,340 in Japan. Source Gamecube Advanced.

    The list from GCA makes excellent reading, non Japanese Nintendo games usually perform poorly in Japan, Metriod Prime 1.2 million US 81,000 Japan, you can't tell me that Japanese gamers wouldn't enjoy Metriod, I think they are snobs.

    Ach. That's not poor at all for a game the likes of Ico. It didn't deserve to sell that well. Not, considering the type of game it is, and not, considering the insane hype it's got either. Bwah. Lame.

    Yeah, I mean - it's only the best game on the whole platform. God forbid it should shift a few copies.

    Put it in your ps2 now and superglue that drive shut.
    You wont regret it. And when you play it take it slowly, look around and savour every beautiful location.

    Play the game. Seriously play it. You owe it to yourself. Please. Buying and not playing it is even worse than not buying it.

    But it's currently underneath a 50% completed Prince of Persia and an unopenned BG&E. There's a bit of a queue!

    I wouldn't say it got insanely hyped at all.. it was released with almost no hype. The only so called hype has come from the gamers who've played it and loved it, for me that's the best kind of recommendation you can get.

    Now that is criminal Mike - those are three of the best games ever, on any console! What the hell are you playing to keep those on standby?

    Talking of Ico (thinks fondly of limited-edition art card set at home), can you still get it, or is it just pre-owned stuff now.
    I've checked a couple of sites and there's no sign of it.
    If it is just second hand though, who in their right mind would trade it in?

    /realises "myself" isn't an appropriate answer

    Um, well I recently put them on hold until I completed Far Cry, and I now have Driv3r on a 10 day loan.

    Lend a mate my copy.. then he lost it.. arg. He claims he must have it somewhere. So I never completed it. Some programmer friends complained it didn't run well, but its incredibly beautiful and.. hrm.. moody.. can't find the right word atm. I often found myself just admiring the graphics.. I'd recommend it only for the graphics, but its fun to play even! :)
