This thread has come about because Psychotext made a disparaging comment about Blue Dragon many months ago and has repeated it again. I am of the opinion that Blue Dragon is a much, much better game. The moves are better and surprisingly brutal. And there is loads of scope for you to put moves together that can give damage of 2000HP+.

Lost Odyssey is a boring, plodding emo-romp through a game world we have seen many times before. I even enjoyed Enchanted Arms more than Lost Odyssey.

Please, EG. Vindicate me. Tell Psychotext that he is a psycho for backing the crappier game of the two.

Oh, and Lost Odyssey wins by default because of the dreams and not having Marumaro.

By virtue of there being no Lost Odyssey fans, apart from Psychotext, I declare Blue Dragon the better game. Ecosse, buy that and be happy. Just remember to put songs on your HDD and play custom soundtracks. The one major misstep in this game is the fucking rock soundtrack that kicks in everytime you engage enemies in battle.

    Worst game design decision. EVER!

Lost Odyssey had Kaim. Kaim is my favourite JRPG lead ever, which isn't saying much as I've played only a few. The dreams were fantastic, and it was gorgeous. The combat was actually a challenge, too. If the story/parts of the world weren't so cliche, it'd have been even better. Oh wells.

I wonder if one day a JRPG will be made in concert with a decent writer who can actually make an interesting world that doesn't reek of cliche. (/fascetious, i've only played about 10 in my life). Srsly, give the LO dream writer full rein in the whole game! Sheesh!

Fear and awe in your eyes
Showing you what you can't see
    Reaching hands, you are blind
    Staring down eternity
Fear and awe in your eyes
Without us you can't see now
    Searching hands, you are blind
    Staring down eternity

    Hope, despair in your mind
Prick your hands until they bleed
Showing you what you can't find
    Staring through eternity

Without us you are free now
Seek now what you cannot find

A little FHUTA never hurt anybody. Even Samantha Geimer says so.

    Edit:
Psycho, are you serious? Are you telling me you actually READ that fucking poetry? And you liked it? Psycho.

I liked Blue Dragon, even with its blatent atempt to be Microsoft's Dragon Quest.

Can't say anything about Lost Oddessy, mind.

Dragon Quest is FAR better than these stupid emo RPGs.

Although, if we're limited to these 2 games, I gave up on Blue Dragon quicker than I gave up on Lost Odyssey. Which means LO loses slightly less than BD.

Much much preferred LO to BD. My interest was just never piqued with BD.

I'm not sure how much they included... I'd need to load it or youtube it. But then I'd have to set fire to my ears.

I loved both games, they were both a lot of fun. Lost Odyssey wins for me though - it really is one of my favourite games in recent memory.

I'm pretty sure there were more verses. I'll probably get lynched for this: I liked that song.

Both those two reviews were dark, dark days for Eurogamer. Blue Dragon is much, much better than Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. And Lost Odyssey is much, much worse than Gears of War.

I've not played Lost Odyssey yet so I can't really comment on that. Blue Dragon, however, I have played and wasn't terribly impressed. It starts off really badly, but it does improve to the point of being 'not bad' once you get through the first... ten hours? Can't quite remember.

The one thing I can say about it without a shadow of a doubt is that it's much better than Eternal Sonata. Which is wank.

Lost Odyssey I spent around 65 hours on

Blue Dragon - if you just go through the story - I'd say around 45ish. I got all but one of the achievements though so ended up doing...lets just say a significant amount more

Funnily enough, Blue Dragon is one of only a few games I have 1000/1000 gamerpoints on.
