I'm pretty excited about this one.

    http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/102/1025313p1.html

Career mode is entirely linear, often allowing only one (or a couple) cars to choose from based on the race, in-game visuals are pretty ugly – bested by most high end PS2 racers, and even Gran Turismo on PSP

Well I love linearity. Life is linear. And Gran Turismo on the PSP is ACE (everyone says so) so if they come up with something nearly as good then I'll be well pleased.

    Oh.

Clearly Codemasters were going for an N64-style retro look. You just can't comprehend their genius.

Seriously I just laughed looking at those screens - its like the wii is devolving. Pretty soon I'm going to come downstairs and find out its turned into a Gameboy Color.

Hey it's not about the graphics, it's all about the WAGGLE!

"What it does resemble, however, is the Dirt 2 PSP game. Yup, Dirt 2 for Wii is basically a bigger brother to the PSP version with motion control tacked on."

I pointed out ages ago on VG247 that the low-power triumvirate of PSP, PS2 & Wii were linked and got torn apart for saying such a thing. This is a really good example of it, though.

    Horrible and lazy.

Indeed it's a shame that most developers keep treating the Wii as a second, no, third rate console.

Gran Turismo 1 graphics aren't much worse than that.

    Quoted for truth.

Still, my Wii and my money are reserved for those developers that do care enough about their customers to put the effort in.

It is pretty shocking. Games like Rallisport Challenge 2 looked amazing on the old Xbox - you'd expect the Wii to keep up with that generation.

Why not get another console then? There's plenty of competent racers on 360/PS3/PC - why wait until someone puts something passable out on the Wii?

In the right hands, you could call the Wii a Gamecube 1.5.

But, publishers dont bother pushing the Wii as people expect shit graphics so there is no point trying to get every last juice out of it.

Whut? I do have other consoles, and I was talking in general not specifically for racers which aren't really my cup of tea anyway.

Plus I buy what I think I will like irrespective of the console it's on, which is why most of my gaming is on the DS.

    3.5 Graphics
The game holds a decent framerate, but it comes at a price. There’s a serious lack of polish, and textures are first pass at best. Prettier racers exist on PS2, and even PSP.

Tbh I am fairly sure that the wii is basically a Gamecube. There were some tricks and befuddlement with serial numbers and ram and wotnot when it came out, to make it appear like a more powerful console - but if there is any power advantage on the wii I have yet to see it. Except possibly its ability to output widescreen and 480p.

SMG looks lovely but it does so because of the art work - Nintendo completely designed the environments to conform to the wiis limitations.

I have yet to see any wii game look as good as rogue squadron.

    Apparently:

    CPU / GPU / Memory
    Wii - 729 mhz / 243 mhz / 24 MB - 64 MB (1TSRAM GDDR3) - 3 MB cache
    Gamecube - 485 mhz / 162.5 mhz / 24 MB - 16 MB (ARAM) - 3 MB cache

Front-side bus bandwidth / main memory bandwidth / CPU DMIPS / cache
    Wii - 1.944 GB/s / 3.888 GB/s / 1691
    Gamecube - 1.3 GB/s / 2.6 GB/s / 1125

Texture cache bandwidth / framebuffer bandwidth / z-buffer bandwidth
    Wii - 15.52 GB/s / 3.888 GB/s / 7.776 GB/s
    Gamecube - 10.40 GB/s / 2.6 GB/s / 5.2 GB/s

    Hmmm, perhaps I was harsh!

It does remind me of beetle adventure racing on the N64 though!

Which was an incredibly good game and also had really nice graphics for the n64. It even managed to reflect the environment on cars which was quite a novelty back then. Hopefully this will see a release on VC sometimes but I somehow doubt it.

Just bought dirt 2 for the 360 yesterday, i was hoping the wii version would turn out alright, but this is a shambles, why bother making a wii version if it gets this treatment. At least we still have excite truck...which was a bloody launch title.... Piss poor codies.. piss poor.

What happened t Excite Truck 2? I saw some preview screens once. Upgraded graphics, online play, more tracks. Zero waggle.
