Just a tip: you can lower the difficulty at any time. Save yourself an aneurysm.
Horrible too-tight camera angle, terrible controls when you lock on to an enemy, an evasive roll move that works maybe once out of every three attempts and your ability to block is tied to uses of your spells. One on one combat is piss easy but groups of trash mobs can kill you rather easily because they'll get behind you easily because you can't see them with the terrible FOV and their multiple attacks make you run out of "blocks" and therefore magic. -

Registered 8 years agoAfter a rocky start that saw me repeatedly gang-humped by Nekkers, I've made it through to the early part of chapter 2. This game is outstanding; the story is compelling, the characterisation excellent, and I'm eager to see where the few seemingly important choices I've made will lead me.
After finishing this I'm going to mosey on over to GOG and buy the first game. It's a bit arse-backwards, but better in reverse order than not at all. -

Registered 8 years agoJust bear in mind the systems are quite different in the first game. They're a lot fussier and more conventionally RPG-ish (The Witcher 2 has the good kind of streamlining in it). And the combat is, like, bad Diablo where you time your clicks.
Still the same great world and characters, though. It was my favourite RPG "of this generation" until The Witcher 2 came out.

He does have a point about the combat though: as much as I love this game fighting's definitely the weakest link for the reasons he listed. I'm surprised it's not been dramatically improved in the EE because most of the issues were already present in the release version.
Mind, it's like pointing out the accompanying wine wasn't all that with an otherwise exquisite seven course meal. -

Every game is, innit? Complaining that a game is bland padding from start to finish is like saying you don't like steak because the taste is the same from your first bite to the last.
By that token, Skyrim is bland padding from start to finish.
spuds is all right, though. I've noticed that he's either completely to one side or the other. There's no in between.

Anyway, starting to enjoy this now, not bad at all. Don't really get the circle jerk associated with it so far, but its definitely starting to get its hooks in. -

Im not sure I have the strength for it. I seem very much in the minority and I have really given this a go but I'm not sure its for me. I have very little idea what going on half the time and I think i prefer a little more hand holding from my RPGs. Little things annoy me like how when you walk along your constantly blocked from certain parts. i.e u can't just jump into the water if u want to go somewhere. Chapter One was Long. If this was only a few more hours Id plough through it but i can't do another 15-20 of this. I really, really want to like this as I was the same with the original Mass Effect at first but its just too hard work.northernlights wrote:

I can understand some of his complaints - maps are a little unwieldy and inventory management can be a pain - but calling this game out because of your inability to save, and crying because the game is too hard rings a little hollow. In fact, it's the lack of coddling, hand-holding and mash-to-win combat that sets this game apart, imo.
The combat's really intuitive once you've put in some time, and considering the amount of options on hand, you always have an answer for every situation. Getting mobbed? Use spells and bombs to turn enemies on eachother, hang back and pick them off with ranged weapons and traps. Honestly, it's a little tiring seeing all those comments ragging on the combat from mash-happy action gamers, butthurt because this game actually requires them to use their brains. -

Snap, I'm in the same boat and didnt bother. It's easy to get the gist of the back story.
Depends if you're a lore hound I guess.
It's taken me about 10 hours this week, just running around Flotsam and surrounds getting to grips with the mechanics. It's all clicked on now and loving it. -

Registered 8 years agoMost of the potentially confusing lore stuff comes from the books rather than the last game. The plot of the first game isn't hugely important. -

The way I read it the complaints are mainly about glitches, not combat being difficult.

Perhaps it's down to platform or even individual system but I for one definitely experienced some (PC). Geralt not responding or there being a slight delay on the action, camera getting stuck at a very inconvenient angle, that sort of thing.
It's relatively rare so I don't mind nearly as much as other players but I can understand how it is frustrating for players. -

If you made it to Flotsam and you are still liking it, you're good and in for a treat.
Just remember to go Iorveth in act 2.
Act 3 is a bit of a downer, but by then you're so concerned with getting to the bottom of the storyarch, you'll be glad it's over with. -

And am I right in thinking that you're only Iorveth/Roche for that one act? I'm looking to finish the game then return to a save I made before the choice, especially if it's 'only' one act for either path (got other games to be getting on with).
I'm currently on act 1. I was under the impression that the Roche path had more content so am going to do that. Plus as it stands it's what feels more natural.XBL: rolemodel86 PSN: Syrette86
