Anyone any pointers on some decent home design software, think similar to the ones used on Grand Designs, Property Ladder etc.

I guess I'm looking for something similar to Visio for the plan view, then be able to click a button and see the 3D representation.

I've try a few crappy DOS versions, and they are awful.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

If you are naughty and have used any CAD stuff before Revit Architecture is worth obtaining. There is a fairly steep learning curve to it and you'll need a decent (gaming) PC to run it .

    Have you tried Google Sketchup?

The entry level version is free, it has a much easier to understand interface than fully fledged 3D apps like Maya. Might as well give it a try, I've been hearing that people with no prior 3D experience have been getting the results they wanted at least.

Bizarrely, The Sims games are actually quite good for this, providing you're only looking for an 'eye' guide (rather than a dimensions-specific guide.) I built my house and got creeped-out by how accurate I was able to get it.
