Ok, My Ps3 died with the YLOD, now then, when i phoned Sony today they quoted me £128 for a refurbished PS3. Now considering that the slim is out and rumours about the 250 i am in two minds.|
1. would you get it refurbised
2. Would you buy a new slim
or 3. i watched Youtube repair guide that showed you how to dismantle it, and apply thermal compound to the chips to get it going again, (90% success rate)
At the minute i'm thinking on option 3, then if its goes again buying a new one

Nope, sell this broken one on Ebay for £60...then buy a slim for £230 from toy's r us, asda, etc.
Oh and keep this YLOD in one thread
EDIT: What Aretak said
Oh, just for the record, i followed a video for self repairing the ylod on youtube. i now have a PS3 working again and it has been running for hours on end over 2 weeks now with no trouble. All it cost was £7 for some themal compound
Has anyone had any success with having their YLOD PS3 repaired? I just got a quote, but I've also read that it isn't 100% guaranteed to work.
It's a 30GB "fat". I think the cause was overheating from my cat sleeping behind it while it was on overnight downloading stuff.
Edit: I know it's simpler to buy a new one, but I really don't have the funds right now.

Depending on what your quote is, a new bottom rung slim is 138 at sainsburys at the moment.
