Recently got put on the Warband expansion beta.

64* player battles? Hell to the yes. Honestly, I had my reservations about this but not only does it work, it works supremely well.

It is satisfying enough in single player to cut down a soldier from his horse and then while he's crawling back up to stab him in the face. It is even more satisfying when the soldier you've stabbed is another player.

The visual improvements are beyond belief, the character models are much more pleasing and the facial customisation rivals that of other rpgs.

*Potential to increase as hardware improves?

Has the single player been improved? I really want more depth in the strategic side of things.

They will be improving single player depth, aye. But not massively.

Something about nailing a jack ass on a horse with a thrown axe or a big 2 handed war axe affects me on a very deep unexplainable level.

Haha, today I lept from the roof of a building and crunched my axe into the head of a Nord down below. Must have cleaved him in two.

Any idea if your serial from the current version of Mount & Blade will work with this new expansion as promised?

Only for the beta. I imagine you'll have to buy the expansion.

Single player additionsare nice, kicking, multiple weapon modes and the new kingdom.

All I know is the new kingdom have some kick-ass two-handers. Still, I don't really want to pay 20 squid for this as it is still arguably an expansion for those who own the original. But if don't own the first one I can fully recommend this new one (I've played the beta).

I agree, while I adore the first one this doesn't seem like much more than an expansion pack, especially if you're not that interested in the multiplayer. So why the high price and why no discount for people that bought the original? Especially seeing as how most of the single player improvements have already been done by mods.

I'll wait for the sales methinks.

Bought it yesterday, and yes, it's definitely more of an update than even an expansion. That said, I don't regret getting it at all, and was immediately hooked to the screen for 3 hours, but I fully understand if people wait for a price drop.

it's only 17 on shopto.net, and having played it compared to the original, i'd say it's worth having. i got even more hooked to it this time than the first time i played it, and the mod community is a damn sight bigger now.

Now all they need to do is put my 47 towards buying a new engine and a just worthy sequel.

I think of it as Reboot for Space Rangers 2. Simply expanding the sandbox game and tightening some other stuff up.

There'll be a live interview starting in an hour's time on Strategy Informer, with the producer at Paradox, all about Warband.

I reviewed this a few days ago for GameShard. 7/10, really enjoyable but they didn't smooth off those rough edges enough for my liking. Still a massive time sink, though.

    -----------------------Bump-----------------------

This game is stealing an inordinate quantity of my (quite worthless at this moment) time. Yay digital horses!

    EDIT: Added bump line

it's a life eater that's for sure, a cunning blend of "I'll just do one more battle" and "right, I'll just ride to one more castle- oh, a battle! I'll just do one more battle"
    Suddenly it's 3am

Yep, it's nicely bitesize and has a looooooong progression curve. To start off smacking looters in rags with pointy sticks and end up leading hordes of glimmering knights into battles involving hundreds of angry men on warhorses is kinda crazy when you don't notice the crossing point. Definitely more fun if you have the difficulty up quite high and you don't reload every time you get unlucky....

So playing Brytenwalda (one of the stuffiest mods for Warband)

Great stuff. Rose up to command a 200+ army, have my own town. I thought to take a castle, a kingdom's final hold out. But I lost, got captured. They stole my shoes! Anyway, after being ransomed I had to make the walk back home, of course, on my own, bandits came for me and managed to capture me. I was with them for several days, in which I missed my wedding!

Are you fucking insane? How is it fun losing all your money/equipment/men because some bastard got a lucky headshot?

I find the online play is more fun.

Shame Fire and Sword is nothing more than a glorified mod, I actually think that some of the mods have done gunpowder weaponry better.

So yeah, disappointed that they're eeking it out for a bit more money. The game as an idea is fantastic, they just need a better engine and coders to make it happen. A lot of things are a compromise in the current game.

I've come to the conclusion Fire and Sword is shit.

Brytenwalda just crashes out on me all the fooking time. Any other more stable mods?

    Blood and Steel

    Prophesy of Pendor

Two I've had installed for a while. Blood and steel is fantastic. Guns, grenades etc...Basically what Taleworlds have ripped off to make fire and sword.

I was surprised how well the game ran, even with all the graphical options set to max, on my average computer. It really seems to be an old engine, not very demanding in graphical terms. By the way the minimum spec for the graphical card is 128 MB, and there is even a DirectX 7 setting in the options !

Try it, maybe your old computer can manage it!

Hmm. Got a 128mb card and 3-4 gigs of Ram. Is there a demo?
