This was certainly not the case for GH:WT. I guess this is new to GH5?
Not GH5 - it started with Metallica and then Greatest Hits.

RB stills nails GH to the wall when it comes to songs available from the disc though, and looking at the GH5 track listing they still seem to go for very easy choices of guitar heavy tunes that everyone knows.

RB do the same to a certain extent but they also throw in a lot more alternative stuff to keep things interesting and fresh. Basically, I think GH needs a bit more diversity in it.

I don't know about that - GH has some pretty excellent track listings. I think it's a matter of opinion which are better in that respect.

What I want to know is - who has both Beatles and GH5, and which is better? I'm a fan of the Beatles, so that's not a factor.

The graphics in GH5 are absolutely awesome. Really, REALLY stunning. The videos almost look pre-rendered. The only way I know they aren't is cos my Avatar is sat there playing whatever instrument I'm playing.

Anybody have any joy trying to import Wt or Greatest Hits tracks yet?

It keeps telling me 'The game server is not available at this time. Please try again later.'

Really impressed with this so far.
It's got some excellent presentation. Also personally finding the note charts to be a lot better too.

In the first couple of hours I've gone through Gorillaz, Beastie Boys, Beck and the simply awesome to play Wild Cherry already.

I prefer RB but the GH5 tracklist (and game) is a decent step forward from World Tour, which I found really dull for the most part.

How could you say WT was dull when it had Band on the Run?!?!? That game was so awesome to play!

Since we seem to comparing the good features that the other series has borrowed, I notice The Beatles: Rock Band finally counts you back into the song after you pause it (which GH did back with World Tour). Rock Band 2 is an absolute bastard if you need to pause it for whatever reason as the moment you unpause it instantly shoves you right back where you left off.

It had it's moments but I just found it a bit of a chore to get through, don't think I made it through to the end.

I only got it as the guitar pack was cheap and I wanted another guitar for RB.

GH5 counts you back in, but a big black logo obscures the whole fret board, so its next to fucking useless.

Same here. It felt like a slog more than a pleasure. Some of the additions are very good though, the music just didn't grab me.

I like it, but I'm seriously struggling with calibration. I've had no problem with RB2 and Beatles. Why does this have to be so fecking awkward?

Tell it to the cleaning lady on Monday.

Try it on about 28ms for both. Works for me.

I tried that, still no good. Most frustrating, I wish I could actually play but it seems broken.

One thing I don't get - how do you have more than 1 band / profile for local play?

ie I want to do a career, and so do the kids, but have it save separate hiscores.

It's driving me nuts - just playing in quickplay atm.

My only gripe about GH5 (and all the other GH games to be honest) is the fact that it doesn't automatically put your gamertag in the high scores list. I just can't understand why not? It's just a small annoyance but really gets to me for some reason!

Having never picked up a Guitar Hero or a Rock Band, and bearing in my mind I'd only be using the guitar since I don't have RL friends who would want to play Simon Says with Fisherprice instruments, what would you recommend as a purchase? Guitar Hero 5 or Rock Band 2? Is it even worth considering Rock Band 2 if you don't have the full band set?

GH5, as once you've mastered the lower difficulties the GH series challenges you more with note charts that are more interesting to play. RB in my experience is a lot simpler on its rythms.
  • Deleted user 14 September 2009 12:02:35
From my initial experience of GH5 the song selection is absolutely fucking rubbish. The Gorillaz in a GH game?

    Do me a favour.

RB2 without a doubt. Better note charts, better songs, better timing window, better DLC.
It's just better, all imho of course!

Yeah that track sucks, it bollocks to sing, play or drum.

Scatterbrain on the other hand :)
  • Deleted user 14 September 2009 12:09:49
I'm sure it'll pick up but the first few tunes it made me play (drunk admittedly) were shocking. Coupled with the fact I can't get the thing calibrated properly it's not made a great early impression.

Picked this up on Friday and got WT free from Game, also picked up Beatles RB.

Hard to say what one I like better, tried to get through WT first though and fecking loving it...only on easy at the moment but can see myself moving upto medium quite soon once I get used to the whole style of playing.

Am also loving B:RB but due to the nature of the slower songs so far I am finding it quite hard to go back and forth from one to the other and much prefer the faster nature of WT but I guess that'll change depending on the song? Will also change it to 28ms like seasidebaz said earlier to see if that makes a difference.

Have also quickplayed GH5 a bit but want to get through WT first...ended up playing it with the misses back and forth on guitar and singstar mic (so glad this works on it) till I finally had to go to bed at 6am, and many beers later! I left her to it as she didn't want to stop (also her first time playing).

Always wanted to get into RB more due to the higher praise it tends to get but after looking at the RB2 track list i'll probably be sadly giving it a miss due to a lot of tracks doubling up with GH.

    Maybe RB3?

I've got this ordered and coming my way today hopefully but I'm a bit concerned about the calibration issues mentioned.
Do you have an option to adjust it manually?
If so I'll just make a note of mu RB2 settings and put them in.
I had real problems with GHII due to calibration and just had to trade it in. GH3 and GH:WT seemed to be ok though.
  • Deleted user 14 September 2009 12:26:01
Eh I'm not sure to be honest, there are some options but I didn't look to closely. I know TB:RB lets you enter them manually.

I wish they'd bring back the calibration from the first Rock Band. "Using an LCD telly? *click*".

    Done.

so just checking..when using an LCD is 28ms the best setting for most people?

not including drunkerds with slow reaction skills!

The game itself is pretty good, but the song selection is terrible. Running Down a Dream and You Gave Love a Bad Name being the only real highlights.

Some of the songs are just awful though. Dont get me wrong, Superstition and Sympathy are good song, but I refuse to play along with a horn section until Trumpet Hero comes out.
