    Oh

Hmm... That's weird. Make steam run an integrity check on the files.

My advice is just to make sure you choose hard, as medium is boring. I just like having a dog that can go sell things for me. I wish my dogs could go out into the world and sell things for me instead of having to deal with ebay.

This is something I was wondering about.. I remember getting ripped apart every five seconds in Diablo, but I've been playing this on medium, about four hours in and haven't died once.

I assumed I was just really good :)

I think I've found the soultion, only problem is I don't really understand how to do what it suggests. I found this on the rune message boards:

Someone on the Steamforums pointed out that there should be a folder/map which contains
    a settings.txt.
Searching with normal options - nothing to be found.
Then i went to advanced options and selected systemfolders and hidden folders.
There still remained a folder - which was a hidden file - that was why i didn't find it, which contained a folder for torchlight including settings and save.
After deleting that folder and reinstalling the game ... IT WORKS !!!

I'm probably being very dim, but don't understand exactly what they mean by going to advanced options and clicking on hidden files. It's annoying as I do think this will work: I think it was that initial change of resolution that has cocked everything up and the settings file deletion would fix that.

I lurk. If I've spoken to you, I'm either impassioned, or drunk.

It's an Explorer option, they mean this. You reach it via the Tools -> Folder Options menu.

In Windows 7 the settings.txt file is in %AppData%\runic games\torchlight, but I'm not sure where it is in other OSs.

thanks balboa, I found it eventualy myself, I had to edit the screen resolution to 800 600 rather than delete it. I then deleted and reinstalled torchlight and it works now.

Good news, Bebop on the Runic forums stated that there will be a new patch after christmas.

Also, if you have bought Torchlight via Steam and running AntiVir there could be random slowdowns. Sometimes AntiVir takes up to 25% of CPU Load, so if you have this setup (Torchlight + Steam + AntiVir) either deactivate AntiVir or go offline with Steam.

Just tried the 2 hour demo on the cover of Total PC, was so impressed that I went online to buy the registration key and much to my delight it was $9.95 in the Xmas sale.....seriously fun game.

I bought it, though I did try the demo and think it was a single player version of WoW. But 3.74 is worth it to give it another go.

They are planning on making it multiplayer eventually. So you're paying a pittance for something that's going to be massively updated in the months to come.

I'm interested to see how Torchlight develops, because I don't usually get on with MMOs - but if I get used to the mechanisms etc in the single-player version (which is good fun, but not quite as compulsively addictive as the Diablo games), I'm wondering if that will make it easier (for myself and others) to jump the gap to MMOs - which I think is a great genre, given what it does, but so far just hasn't quite been for me.

Having played a few similar titles on various formats I was wary of this as I tend to enjoy these sort of things for a few hours then tire. I took a punt at the 3.74 price and really like it. I've been borrowing Sacred 2 for months on the 360 and it's just not clicking whereas Torchlight has really grabbed me.

I'd go far as to say it's been one of my favourite, perhaps even the favourite, one-handed experiences of the week.

Only certain games work with key adding, that being Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and Unreal Tournament 3, there are more, but I can't remember them.
