Any chance of getting an SSD in there? They are pretty cheap now and add so much.

Antec 300 Case (needs a new front panel power cable)

PM me offers if anyone is interested in anything
I'll get around to popping this into the swapsies thread over the weekend.

@grey_matters Did try that, I guess it depends on how cheap i get the other parts. Trying to keep the cost down to £350!

4Gb of RAM is pretty limiting.
Ok I've added an SSD, and another 4gb of ram. Also reduced my HDD size to 500gb.
Total cost is now £450 which is way over my budget of £350 even if i manage to get parts off eBay.
I think the GPU price is killing me - is there another GPU which will give me the same performance at a lower cost?

I'd say the 1050ti is pretty much the minimum for 1080p and even then it won't be running the latest games with bells and whistles on.
If you really want to downgrade there's the RX 460 but its pretty shit
Can i ask what you're hoping to do with this pc? What kind of games? You might just get a better experience with a ps4pro for £350 tbh
Pricing a PC against a console never feels worth it. Due to the cost of the base components being similar whatever the spec you don't really get bang for your buck until you're in 1060 and maybe r5 1400 territory.

@THFourteen really its to scratch a build itch but also to replace an ageing 750ti pc.
Not looking to play the latest games with graphics ramped up etc. just aomething decent which can do everything well.

Just wondering if anyone could advise me on which of these to go for, the lenovo legion y520 or the Dell inspiron 7000. Looking at the configs with the i5 and 1050 in each model. Alternatives welcome too.
Need the portabilitiy of the laptop unfortunately, i know i'd get much better machine going with a desktop. Thanks.
Can someone help me understand how to get W10 on to a cheap system I'm building for my neighbour please ?
I thought I could build a small NUC/Brix type thing for my ageing neighbour to just surf the web, but I'm not really up to speed on the options for getting W10 on the SSD. I did read something about making a bootable USB, which sounds easy enough. But what is the cheapest way to buy the actual W10 OS for the PC ? The prices I've seen online cost half as much as the PC !
Let me know if it works

@TheBlackDog The bootable USB instal is on the microsoft site, left a old usb set up with it so never need a dvd drive on anything.
I did the same for my granparents and made a pc for them, it had its use but they both moved onto ipads eventually, did try a laptop between too but tablets are easier all round for what they need.
@KD Thanks. Forgot to mention that he really needs a PC of some sort as he needs to submit reports to the department of agricultural equivalent here, which is done on their website. I think he prefers that to using a tablet, plus he does have a monitor as his well old PC had finally broke down.

Before I considering putting it on eBay or Gumtree wondering if anyone from here would like to buy my monitor?
It's a ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q
2 x USB 2.0 ports
Just want something a bit bigger and considering going ultra-widescreen. Looking at eBay completed listings a few have gone for £400-£500 so anything around the £400 would be ace.
Bit of a long shot but you never know so thought i'd see here lol
I always laugh at this thread title
Nice monitor though.
Scrapyard wars 5 episode 1 is out!
Should give some of you folks ideas on budget pcs
