Cheers BlackDog, will take a look.

Question, will going for 1600mhz DDR3 instead of 1866mhz in any way affect the overclock i can achieve or the 'real world' performance of the system?

I'm looking for a moderate OC of around +1ghz on this new system like i currently have with my old Q6600.
No, ram speed makes barely any difference at all even in benchmarks. The only exceptions are AMD's APUs where the on-die GPU really benefits from faster RAM.

Cheers FR for a no nonsense answer. It feels like ive been beaten down by all the shitty 1866, 2400 marketing over the course of looking for parts for my system. My common sense was tingling but i got caught up in the shiny 'OH YEAH MOAR SPEED = BETTER!' hype. :(

how are these specs for a budget gaming pc? daughter's after one for her birthday and wants one that'll handle things smoothly but not necessarily the latest releases - comparing all the ones i've come across in our budget, this seems to be the best

    Quad Core AMD 3.6GHZ
    AMD Radeon HD 7560D
    Windows 8 Installed
    1TB Sata III HDD
    8GB ddr3 RAM

    Ah-HAAAA!

Dunno if it's true for BF4 or just advertising.

So I'm thinking of building a system to connect to my TV for some bf4 action. Can't list all parts as on phone but will be centred around a fx 6300 and 7870. Any thoughts and what performance would I be looking at for bf4 at 1080p? Also should I be avoiding amd?

Probably something similar to all the other times you've asked and ignored all the advice and recommendations.

Thanks for digging out two posts I've previously made about building a budget pc, despite having absolutely nothing to do with my post. And for making a wonderfully ironic comment about ignoring advice and recommendations where I haven't had any, and not offering any yourself. Brilliant. And yes, I'm sure if I get no response you will see me again in a few months.

Good to see you not greeting about pc gaming at least.

shrug. I know you're just bored and having a shit or whatever, but if you genuinely want some advice on parts, maybe wait until you've finished your shit and post full specs and what you're after when you're on a computer?

If I were to join the dots, I wouldn't expect much from that CPU&GPU "on Battlefield 4".

You have been trolling and belittling people in PC threads recently.

So why are you surprised when those same people don't rush to help you.

Just get the best card you can afford. I'd probably suggest nVidia because they have some software that does a reasonable amount of configuration for you.

As I've suggested before, don't be cheap with components such as PSUs and motherboards because they're a pain in the arse to trouble shoot.

If you build a spec using any components that differ from my PC, then you're doing it wrong. This is the best advice I can give.

Really the best solution is to go to tomshardware and look at their recommendations for the different price ranges.

You are a factory of sadness.

Heh, that's almost exactly what I did. A little fine-tuning in this thread to make sure I wasn't making an utter balls-up and then: job done.

It has been my method for about ten years and has never done me wrong.

@mowgli Sorry for the off-topic, but what phone OS and what keyboard software are you using?
  • Deleted user 31 October 2013 07:46:44
Tomshardware price ranges, got it thanks. I started with an i5 but then did some reading that all pointed at the 6300 not being much different but significantly cheaper.

Penguin, using galaxy s4, jellybean and SwiftKey, how come?

Why not just get a new console if all you want is BF4?

Surely a 7950 isn't much more than a 7870 these days? Don't know about bf4 but that will run bf3 on ultra at 60fps/ 1080p etc

I didn't say that. But from what little I know if it can play bf4 well it can play anything else I'm interested in very well. It's the target I'm going for.

I see random words in about half of your posts that are possibly due to some overbearing predictive text (or, alternatively, a brain tumour). I think I'll be avoiding SwiftKey, then. Cheers!

It's quite good. But my phone tends to randomly hang and the cursor to select words/letters is a pile of shite in Android.

    yeah it sounds quite good

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise half of them are stupider than that

Hmmm. For the last two months about half of my posts here have been from my phone as I've started going on the train a few times a week, and I haven't noticed any degradation in the technical quality of my posts (compared to a big-ass laptop or a big-ass PC). I don't think Android is the problem. I'm using "Swype" (since it was on sale for about 50p), and although I was sceptical of paying for a keyboard app, it was well worth it.

I should point out that 80% of my posts are when I'm walking the dog. Which on a five inch screen is hard with one hand.

After being pretty unimpressed with Xbone & PS4 I'm going to get back into PC gaming again.

Looking at building as I have some parts lying around already I can reuse. Looking at the following main components:-

    AMD 6 core 4.1GHz, 8 GB 1600Mhz GDDR3, Asrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-231-OK&groupid=43&catid=2512

    &

    Asus 660 Direct CUII GPU
    http://www.dabs.com/products/asus-geforce-gtx-660-1020mhz-2gb-pci-e-3-0-hdmi-directcu-ii-oc-8S37.html?q=660%20asus&src=16

Coming in at 220 + 140 = 360 leaving me approx. 100 budget to get a few remaining parts i.e. PSU & Case

    Sound ok?

I just posted in the Bargains thread about a 216 GTX 770, which is a stupidly good price, and... errr... only 80 more than you were looking to spend. :p

Nice. How stupid would it be to but three cards in a little over 12 months? Last one was a 7950 about 4 or 5 months ago!
