(The last time I was looking after my friend's dog, I had one of our local winos wander up to me, look at the dog and pronounce "THAT is a VERY fine hound!" before wandering off, bottle in hand. I was so proud!) -

Registered 7 years agoMaybe my sealing abilities haven't been up to par. One week there were literally thousands upon thousands of maggots in our trash - and they collect every week here as well! I was pretty embarrassed and felt bad for the garbage men. They're probably used to it, though.
Dog Whisperer rules. No talk, no touch, no eye contact is key! I have his book, too...he's had quite a life that Cesar Milan. Came to the US as an illegal immigrant and made his way.
I don't know if he's the type to deliberately teach a dog to shit on the pot, but I bet he'd have no problem doing it if he wanted to. -

I really shouldn't look at those dog rehoming websites - they break my heart and some of the stories behind how the dogs end up there sicken me. I don't understand how people can treat any animal badly, let alone one which is supposed to be a loving pet. -

Registered 7 years agoYeah, when we were looking to save a dog from our local shelter, it wasn't easy walking out empty handed sometimes. But you have to do what's best for your own home ultimately. You can't save 'em all! -

Registered 11 years agoMy wife and I drive past our local SPCA all the time but we haven't gone inside in ages since it's too sad to leave without taking a dog or cat home. Especially for me since so many of the dogs there and pitbull crossbreeds that remind me of Staffordshire bull terriers which are the dogs I grew up with.
But we already have three dogs and three cats and won't be getting a new one any time soon. -

Registered 6 years agoYeah, it is a shame to see so many Staffies and the like in these dog homes - unfortunately, they are often taken on by people to look 'hard' and as they are powerful dogs, they can be trained to be nasty. Thing is, they are really friendly, loyal dogs. -
