Loved this at the EG expo. Defiantly influenced by uncharted in the scripted scenes and platforming, but that was influenced by Tomb Raider in first place. Loved the hunting section, its up there as the game I'm most looking forward to this year so far.

Hmm...no, I don't think so. Tomb Raider >>> Uncharted was essential a totally different genre. TR was, at heart a platformer, Uncharted a shooter.

This is clearly aiming at the same set-piece driven action adventure shooter feel as Uncharted. Even if it's darker.
Does it have a lot of Uncharted style set pieces then? I'm ok with that cause I liked them in Uncharted anyway. For me, they always felt like a far better version of a QTE. Tomb Raider was always pretty combat-heavy as well, it's just that the auto aiming made it sort of passive. Uncharted is a great series so it's only natural that games will borrow from it, good ideas make their way in to other games. Just like the third person shooting and cover mechanics from Uncharted were borrowed from other games. I'd say this new TR is influenced by Uncharted, but it hasn't gone as far as ripping it off, but I'd have to play the game to really see.

Seems a bit unfair to call it an Uncharted rip-off given the above.
Uncharted only took the slow-paced platforming, and even that's a stretch given that you could argue TR took that from Prince of Persia (the original).

Whereas this reboot appears to be trying to replicate as much of what made Uncharted so special as possible, only with even more scripted gameplay and QTE's. It's sort of like your mate copying one answer from your exam, and you then copying his whole paper.

Because something unique had to die. :(

I mean, it's been dying for long time but it's still sad when you finally have to finish it off.

Because swamping a game with scripted sequences and QTEs is very rarely good. Even Uncharted 2 cut it fine sometimes when it came to interactivity.

Uncharted doesn't have that many QTE's and the scripted stuff works well for the type of game it is.

I don't think Uncharted has any QTE's does it?

I can't remember any but I googled it and apparently it does.

It's weird how playable the original game still is, even with the lack of modern third person controls and the triangular boobs. Been playing it in DOSBox. Draw distance could use some improvement, though.

This has probably been asked before but is the action figure in the collector edition the art Kai one?

@ZuluHero Yes it is! From the Game website:

Play Arts Kai Lara Croft Figurine - This 8" fully posable figure boasts over 40 points of articulation and an alternate set of three hands so you can choose how (and where) to pose her. She also comes with the climbing axe, shotgun, handgun, and the iconic bow and arrow.
I didn't even know they were releasing a collectors edition with a figurine but now I'm probably going to get it so thanks!

@MatMan562 ahh thanks! It seems pretty good then considering the figure on its own is 50+. Not that id buy an action figure for that much (anymore ;)

You can get it slightly cheaper on amazon if it helps: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B009OXBDU0/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1358119661&sr=8-1&pi=SL75

If you have a pc that can run it you can get it for 50 on amazon as well.

Can you claim the bow and arrow as iconic at this point? I certainly still think of Lara as Ms Twin Handguns.

Thanks for that ZuluHero, I assumed it was a Game exclusive.

I'd actually say you could. Lara will always be known for her twin handguns but when I see this version of her I think of the bow and arrow first.

I've got the edition with the figure on Amazon preorder as well. I get tempted by collector's editions far too often!

I played the remake Tomb Raider Anniversary on the PSP a few years ago. The originals had a sort of timeless charm for me. I really wish the new one would have extremely minimal combat, for me that was the thing that held them back the most as the series went on.

A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men.

I still remember the t rex. Is the remake on 360?

The beauty of the old games was a nice slow pace, apart from the odd bit of shooting. Most of the time you were just staring at walls trying to work out how to climb them, or psyching yourself up for a daring combination of precise jumps.

I won't condemn the new one until I've played it, as it could well be great, but it saddens me how the same type of thing is now achieved by holding A and pushing forwards in most of these games.

No demo for Tomb Raider shoeing, i mean Reboot

A demo would spoil the story apparently. spoil the preorders more like

It's like they don't want my money.

The demo did so much to change my mind about DMC. This one's starting to reek of a stinker.

Alot of big games don't have demos to be fair. Doesn't necessarily mean its going to be shit.

On the front cover of the latest Games TM. Big article in there but not got time to read it yet.
