I'd say there's a big market for games that rely on exploration, Arkham Asylum did that very well and some of the gameplay elements here definitely sound very Metroid-vania like. And people eat up things like GTA just to randomly run around and hit things. As long as there's the occasional bad guy shoot up, it should do just fine.

As much as I've loved the Uncharted series it really lacks the same sense of exploration and puzzle solving that the TR series has, so I'm glad to see the developers seem to be focusing on that side rather than just making an Uncharted clone.

Some of the best bits of Uncharted are where you drop in to an underground cave and have to rely on a torch, it's a nice bit of tomb raiding and is immensely atmospheric. And the best bit of Uncharted so far, is the Tibet section in the second game, when you follow the guy around.

This has promise of being highly spectacular and genuinely fills me with hope. It's nice to CD doing something so positive instead of churning out another cookie cutter game on the basis of a stale name selling games rather than any uniqueness or talent coming through.

    /Snigger.

Absolutely the wrong phrase to use when talking about a TR game.

Is this the ninth reboot or the ninth game?

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

I am really glad its a clean reboot. As much as I enjoyed underworld, I didn't have a fucking clue who half the people were in the story.

You only needed to have played Legend (which is thus far the ONLY reboot of the series) to understand Underworld. Her two advisers were never really introduced but were easy enough to figure out who they were and what they did.. And Amanda was her friend who felt betrayed by something that happened in the past.

I would have liked this to have simply been a prequel to Legend so it could have kept characters like Amanda (before her emo turn) especially if the multiplayer rumours are true. Though considering there's been no mention of them and they're hyping up the "sole survivor" thing, I'm guessing their not.

Everything about old Tomb Raider was so amateur, I'm glad they've ditched it.

It does sound too good to be true. Saying everything you want to hear. Fingers crossed.

They are going to fuck it up somehow.

Looks like a younger and much fitter Hilary Sawnk.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Easily the fittest computer game thing I've ever seen. I'd like to lick her pixels.

Bits of the soundtrack sandwich a chunk of chat, and write-in questions.

Not so muddy girls face :) The podcast includes participation from
Crystal Dynamics' global brand manager Karl Stewart and Tomb Raider franchise director Tim Longo
who phoned in to the recording.

Am I the only one thinking Microsoft should buy this IP? Let's face it, with Uncharted on PS3 Tomb Raider will always suffer from the comparison and on the other hand Microsoft doesn't have an Uncharted and badly need one. Easy maths...

Looks intriguing that... looks almost survival horror-y. Perhaps a bit more Uncharted too? I'm not a huge fan of the originals mind so it kind of suits me them rebooting this.

Looks kinda generic. Seems like she's meeting a savage, indigenous tribe, which I suppose is okay, but is a bit concerning when it comes to the tomb raiding portion of the game. Will it piggyback on existing mythology, or is it creating the whole lot from scratch? Because the latter is a harder sell.

Don't want to judge too early, but it already looks like we'll be fighting plenty of human enemies.

All I need from this are 8 giant brain bending tombs. Huge in scale with good puzzles. The odd beastie, but no other humans.
  • Deleted user 31 December 2010 00:37:53
    Good luck with that.

I know just the game for you!

Seriously though, like Crispy says, good luck with that. I have a sliver of hope but like with the proposed RE reboot that will supposedly return to the roots of the series I'm not counting my chickens.
