So theres been a glut of remakes recently (Monkey Island, Wolfenstein spring to mind - altho mainly because of that stupid advert on the forum). Everybody loves them and i personally have now purchased my 3rd copy of Monkey Island (including the DOS, Steam and Iphone versions).

Does anyone think that there will be a glut of current games being remade in 20 years time? Gears, GTA, Halo, stuff like that?

Personally I dont see it happening, I dont think the advances in gaming in the next 20 years would make playing GTA4 again a vastly different experience, but then I suppose playing Monkey Island for the 2nd time isnt that different an experience either.

I don’t know about remade but we will have CoD 25, Halo 10 and we MAY even have Duke Nukem…

Someone will re-make Ico with better controls and less irritating combat. Nerds will say that it 'fails to capture the spirit of the original' and cry-wank themselves to sleep.

Meanwhile, I'll be playing the Syndicate re-imagining in 360° Immers-O-vision.

true we'll have these, but like you say they wont be remakes. I cant see any of the CODs being "Remade" - none of the storylines were that involved or memorable enough to make it worthwhile.

halo....maybe yeah. like a special edition covering all 3 games

    /buys.

They'll probably still be remaking the same damn games they keep remaking repeatedly these days - Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy 1-6, etc. etc.

I hope they remake no games. Remakes are crap. Remakes using motion controls are even more crap.

    Unless it's RE4 of course.

I can see things like Halo or Quake or whatever being completely reskinned in glorious HD with razor sharp new graphics etc and punted out as downloadable novelty items on the next generation of hardware, for sure.

Unless it's RE4 using full body tracking and having to shout "Pow, Pow!" to fire your gun.

    Actually that sounds quite fun.

I'm waiting for controllers to vanish. You play games by the sheer power of your brain.

Twitch FPS player? I lol at you.

There will only be two games in 20 years time; the latest version of Call of Duty and World of Warcraft.

There is less variety each year - look at all the genres covered by PlayStation 1 and compare that to what's available on PlayStation 3.

Did you see that monkey that's got electrodes attached to its brain that allows it to manipulate a robot hand to push buttons and stuff? They're getting them working on humans as well. Don't have all the facts at my fingertips, but all that mind-control stuff is definitely coming.

    Er, by which I don't mean Jedi mind-control. ;)

I'm still waiting for a decent VR set up to come along - that - with a really good Wii type control system + plus that Microsoft body image recognition thingy would be sooooo cool...

(but would make you look like a tit..)

    (but a happy tit...)

The only problem with that is requiring the type of coordination that gamers stereotypically arent good at

for example, i play FIFA because i can score goals/pass/run better than i can in real life.

having something read the technique of my feet/legs and apply it to a ball in game would suck.

True - but they can tweak it - think about a football game where you can pick your playing style - it takes you basic hamfisted movements at recreates some great footballer.

Or just think of the porn you could "interact" with.

Yeah, sounds good - maybe they could use quick-time events for combat, and perhaps make the character you control a bit darker, accompanied by a thrash metal soundtrack and a gun.

Also, the girl in the tower should now look like this.

At a guess, Final Fantasy 7.

Also all of todays popular games will be remade on some kind of handheld device I bet.

I'll still be waiting for X-Com.

The GTA games from 3 onwards might be interesting to see remade using the technology of the future.

FF7 is already old, and has been rereleased if not remade... but i suppose as they've remade FF4 for the DS its a possiblity...

hmmm just remembered they remade colonization last year too!
