I have a blue knob built on the keyboard of my laptop in case I wish to move the cursor in a wild and incontrollable fashion.

To date its only purpose has been to stop me hitting the G and H keys properly; which I just did and it has DROPPED OFF, and rolled onto my lap.

I've stuck it back on its stalk but its only a friction fit and I cant stand the uncertainty of when it'll fly off again.

    What can I do?

The official term is actually "nipple". Your blue nipple has fallen off.

(I'm not joking by the way)

Fine. I came to the Eurogamer community needing serious help and all I get is derision.

    Fine.

stop touching your nob? Don't play with it at all, or it will fall off again. In a few weeks it will have accumulated enough gunk to stay on and you can start using it again

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

    Fine.

You're the one who ejaculated knob jokes all over the OP :)

edit to actually offer a suggestion: Since it's blue, I'm guessing you have a HP/Compaq laptop? If you call customer service you might be able to get a replacement. Given their integration into the keyboard itself, you might have to replace the whole thing, though. Are you still under warranty? I'm sure you can Sale of Goods Act your way to a new one.

edit the second: Definitely call IT. I'm sure they've dealt with that problem before, and depending on the size of the company they may well have replacements for you. I don't think that yours will be an isolated incident. Is it a work laptop?

But if I pinch the end of it with my fingers it lifts right off. It could potentially drop off soon. I am at work , should I call IT and ask them to have a look at it?

    I have a mouse.
    I have a trackpad.
And I have a blue NOB.

I would like all of these things in good order.

This does not and will not affect you.

    Good day.

    Good day.

Thats a pretty passive aggressive responce right there. I only answered your original question after all. Perhaps you felt it was flippant, and although it was fairly apathethic it is still a serious suggestion for you to consider.

To go deeper into my suggestion, why do you want your blue nob in good order? Seemingly it serves only to frustrate and annoy you. (Ref: Your OP: in case I wish to move the cursor in a wild and incontrollable fashion. To date its only purpose has been to stop me hitting the G and H keys properly.)

You are in a position to remove a source of irritation from your life, and yet you want to preserve it so it can irritate you another day? Remove it and be done with it!

Perhaps your receiving flippant remarks and less than detailed responses because you fail to perceive that your own original post invites them. The thread title is obviosly intended to be humourous, you obviously have a low opinion of the item in question, and you use caps and bold text to create a sense of drama about the proceedings.

You have created a circus and been surprised at the arrival of clowns!

    1. It troubles me that I have ever used the nob. Who uses it, what type of person, and why? Who would possibly favout it over a trackpad. Is it there for emergencies?

    2. If it has fallen off what might fall off next? The point is its not meant to fall off. Someone important decided it should be there. Its not really any different to your steering wheel coming off at 70mph on a sliproad.

    3. Yes your didactic is probably correct.
