You realise the US has lots of bases within striking distance of NK? If they hit Seoul they'd kill loads of US troops.

    Stop talking utter mince.

If North Korea even tried to fire a missile at the US, it would destabilise the whole world. They arent just a threat to the US they are a threat to everyone. Just because it may not hit doesnt mean it wont do damage.

They were saying a treat to America itself, not American interests or American troops in s Korea. Same nonsense as Iraq having to ability to hit London years ago. They just talk up Korea's ability to get backing.
  • Deleted user 12 February 2013 18:39:26
Actually, they were saying it was a threat to US National Security. Which it is, as has been explained in several posts.

Resorting to semantics to win an argument and absolute refusal to admit your error are not attractive traits.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Ironically it is both a threat and a treat to US national security.
  • Deleted user 12 February 2013 18:49:33
Did you guys also feel Iraq was a direct threat like you seem to be saying Korea is?
  • Deleted user 12 February 2013 18:51:41
No, but Iraq never demonstrated missile technology and nuclear warheads, all the while saying "push us further and we'll push back harder".

But went to war on fake evidence that they had the ability to launch chemical weapons into Europe. At the time did you believe this threat?

Even if tomorrow morning n Korea had a intercontinental missile they wouldn't use it. In every scenario the end game is the same, north Korea lose.
  • Deleted user 12 February 2013 18:54:19
That said, yes, Iraq did still represent a credible threat to the US National Security (and some argue, still does). You seem to be equating national security with "the country as a physical entity".
  • Deleted user 12 February 2013 18:56:09
Both in Iraq and Korea's case USA have stated the physical risk to USA. Well Iraq case was Europe but equally bull shit.
  • Deleted user 12 February 2013 19:01:36
I'm utterly lost as to the point you're making.

Was the invasion of Iraq based mostly on fabricated and assumed evidence about weapons of mass destruction?

    Yes.

Does that mean Iraq was not a threat to National Security?

    No.

Have North Korea actually physically demonstrated they have nuclear capabilities and intercontinental ballistic missiles?

    Yes.

Are they a threat to National Security? Hell, are they a threat to worldwide peace and security?

    Yes.

Anyway it was a pleasure to.discuss these matters with you all. Boring if we just agreed on everything, only shame is the abusive comments there are not necessary in a debate. Adios.
  • Deleted user 12 February 2013 19:05:24
Okay one last thing. Major technology gap between being able to create a bomb to creating a sophisticated warhead that will form part of an intercontinental missile system. Adios. Xx

Doesn't mean we should sit around complacently until they bridge that gap.

I'm glad we apparently have an actual rocket scientist here.

It's as simple as having a foolproof missile defense system, I suppose.

North Korea's rocket scientist should be busy building rather than posting here.

Seems that fugitive cop was in a firefight with police officers. Not sure if they caught him or not. Mad story.

I've been catching up via the Gaf thread and it sounds like TV feeds have been cut so SWAT positions aren't given away so I think it's still ongoing.

Cabin is on fire. From what a lot of people are saying, it sounds like the police have been overheard on police scanners talking about starting the fire to smoke him out.

Probably my favourite The Onion article. Wish these were the words Armstrong had said when he landed on the Moon.
