It's easy to target me and ignore the question of alternative voting systems, it was a genuine question. I assumed replies would be like that, as a lot of people only want voting reforms 'when it suits their views'.

@AcidSnake I tend to stay clear my American sites as they all have their own motives, let's see what the final result shows, hopefully a Obama win!
If the US had a 'popular vote' election then tens of millions of people who didn't bother to vote, in states that were certain to vote red/blue, might actually vote.

So yes, the popular vote numbers are fucking meaningless in every way.

Anyone else see "Dave" Cameron casually referring to Obama as "Barack" as if they're best friends? Tit.

Fuck it, I'm moving to Colorado.

Yes. Although that would be PR, not AV. Just because I may not like who people vote for doesn't mean I should skew the system so that it works for me.

In further news, Puerto Rico voted to become a state, in a non-binding referendum. 61% favor statehood, 33% free association, and 5% independence. This is after 52% voted to change the status quo, and 47% voted to remain a territory. The Republicans and Democrats both have it in their political platform that they would honor a statehood vote by Puerto Rico.

The US congress has to vote to ratify any territory that is vying for statehood. Obama has also pledged to honor a statehood vote, if statehood has a majority, which it appears to in this case. The votes are not completely tallied, but the projection is that statehood will win. If Puerto Rico becomes a state, then they will get more representatives in the House (they have 1 right now, as a territory) and two senators. This would be a boon for the democratic party, since the population is left leaning, and its electoral votes would likely go for them.

I love this sort of provacative trash. What percentage of the blacks voted for Romney? Oh, I just looked it up. It's 7%.

By your implied assertion, who's more racist?

/edit I had erroneously listed the percentage that didn't vote for Romney...

    @cyber_nicco

You're reading into it too much, I wasn't making that implication and I have no idea if that implication is true, I just believed it was an interesting statistic.

Obama also had a higher Hispanic turnout, along with higher female. All it really means is Mitt was more the leader for the white male, whereas Obama is the leader for everyone.

The real racism is in people saying that Mitt's group is more important, which several GOP pundits are.

My one really Republican/Conservative/Tea Party friend has this to say on his Facebook page:

A state that is misguided does not deserve my tax dollars. A country that elects a dictator does not deserve a constitution. I am now in favor of emigration reform so we can at least get out.
The state that he's referring to is Minnesota, his home state. Minnesota ended up rejecting the ban of same-sex marriage, which is wonderful news to mostly everyone I know except him.

It bears repeating that Romney lost the popular vote.

I dunno. America can't even figure out that having elections on Saturdays would boost voter turnout, so compulsory voting isn't happening any time soon.

I still find comments by people like Bill O'Reilly horribly depressing. Effectively insinuating that Romney lost because America isn't America anymore, it's been taken over by blacks and latinos and the whites are now horribly disenfranchised. Fuck off, O'Reilly, you massive racist prick.
